i'd like a mobile version

i'd like a mobile version that was very simple. something where i could read new posts quickly with the least amount of clicking and scrolling. and easy posting too.

It would be nice but I am not sure if it would be worth the effort for the Admins.

( being able to attach pictures to a follow up or comments is higher on my list )

That would be great.. I'm

That would be great.. I'm using WM6 on a PPC-6700 with PIE and sometimes Picsel browsers.. I think it's a 240 x 320 px screen..

The ability to read, post, and even send photo files from the phone to the site would be great..

Sure... can't hurt... only if it isn't a big deal for Admin... and yes being able to add photos to replies would be cool to piggy back off of an orignal poster's photo.

That would be nice. Also a way to show comments and not just initial posts when reading this site from a newsreader like SPB Insight.

Especially if it's easy to do.

I've seen other bulletin board software come with PDA-formatted versions of themselves (www.flyertalk.com is a frequent flyer-focused board that I follow, their PDA version is at www.flyertalk.com/wap).

If it isn't easy to pull off, then I wouldn't lose sleep over not having it. :)

I think we can get it to the point where adding pictures in post replies can be done with every user who has a Photobucket account.

Actually I wrote and host my

Actually I wrote and host my own photo app, but in my own opinion it is not "clean" to separate content between sites since context is lost.

plus what happens when the Photobucket/Fliker/etc. site decides that you need to login in to access images? Do you want to have to create a login just to see a image of a hobo on BART taking a public dump?

boopiejones's picture

we can upload pics direct

we can upload pics direct from our computers to bartrage within a forum topic. why would the reply pics need to be from a photobucket or flickr account?

Evil Pete's picture

you can not upload them in a

you can not upload them in a reply/Comment to a forum topic.

Eg: if you started a topic with a attached picture and I have another image to add to the subject as a part of my reply I can not attach it.

boopiejones's picture

right. what i was trying to

right. what i was trying to say is that if we did add the functionality to post pictures to a reply, why would we need to involve a flickr type account? shouldn't we be able to post them direct from our computer harddrive if we so choose?

Using the EMBED formatting

Using the EMBED formatting would take up less bandwidth and wouldn't require extensive modifications to the security settings on this site.

rafa1215's picture

I guess that would work. Hey

I guess that would work. Hey we might even use the embed function to embed youtube videos and such.

I would be willing to build

I would be willing to build two mobile interfaces.

One for iPhone/iPod touch and one for all other mobile phones. I am also looking at building some Mac widgets. Everything would be based off the RSS feeds

And also a upload interface.

And also a upload interface.

I actually don't have much

I actually don't have much trouble with the normal site loading on my Blazer browser, in a way I prefer the way it shows up on my phone. All the new posts and entries (everything in the sidebar) show up at the top of the page. I just click the recent posts link and browse to the new ones from there.

The main drawbacks to not using a mobile aware site are in links and threading. If someone posts a link and doesn't mark it up so it's click-able, it's a royal pain in the ass to go to the site so I usually don't. Also, I don't see any of the post hierarchy so it gets a little weird sometimes, it takes practice figuring out who posted what first.

That's a good point treo.

That's a good point treo. For anyone reading this - i'm guilty of not doing this all the time - use the typethenameofyourlinkhere - in your post and you just made the link clickable

Hey all, I have been so busy

Hey all, I have been so busy and haven't had time to check out the site or email. We're open to making this site available to you in various formats. However, I just replied to Shrapnel and explained to her that I will try to research for the best solution. There are a couple of ways this can be accomplished. I will update here on the progress. LOL by the way, I used to have WM5 OS device and must say, the iPhone is a wonderful browser for internet usage. :) I'm not trying to promote Apple but they did a great job making their browser except Java isn't supported. :(

We are looking for suggestions and feedback, and maybe even someone to help us design the interface. You can reach boopiejones, Admin, and myself by emailing BARTRage.Moderators@gmail.com

Thanks!
