Translink

Anyone know when MUNI plans to deploy TransLink on the Non Metro vehicles ?

I know they are being installed for testing but I'm wondering when they will be official.

And to include BART commentary :

When transferring from BART to Muni there is no way to take advantage of the BART->MUNI ( or BART->AC transit) transfer discount when you use Translink.

I think Muni is aiming for

I think Muni is aiming for March 2008 for all of the readers to be installed in its non-rail vehicles. I believe the website (TransLink's) says January but I've heard March is more realistic.

As for the BART-to-Bus transfers, TransLink's RFID chip will store information about when rides were taken and, if within 1.5hrs, a TransLink user boards an AC Transit, Muni, County Connection, or Tri-Delta bus, the discount (varies) will automatically be applied. For the districts that also offer Bus-to-BART discounts, that will be applied the next time the card is used.

Hope that helps.

yea, hearing dates helps

yea, hearing dates helps since when MUNI goes it online will cause BART (and others) to get their's ass into gear either though embarrassment of by public awareness and demand .

I saw a working TransLink

I saw a working TransLink reader on the 43 Masonic yesterday morning. Here's what Muni has to say about TransLink: http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mfares/translink.htm . From what I understand, passengers are allowed to use a TransLink card on only readers that are working and should have a backup fare ready. The MTC also says that 80% of the Muni buses are equipped with TransLink equipment. See this page: http://apps.mtc.ca.gov/events/agendaView.akt?p=954 .
