The promised story... Dumbass rider of the day, last month

Last month, a fight broke out at the Powell Street BART Station sometime around 9PM, on the northwest end, near the entrance to that new ritzy shopping center, the Westfield. Two kids were apparently arguing and it escilated to a fight or something to that effect.

Well, the Station Agents, oblivious to anything out of the ordinary, were going about their business and didn't notice the fight. A frantic passenger runs over and signals to them the commotion in progress.

Now, there is a Zone facility in Powell Street Station (it's that room with no sinage or anything, just a door and a giant tinted window). But the Station Agent can't just walk over and knock on the door - they have to call it in do BART Police Communications / Dispatch so they can send the Officers.

Well, Dispatch lets the Officers know, and five cops come running from the facility. The kids, spotting the Officers, run up the down escalator to street level. Not so smart - there were stairs right next to the escalator, so a few Officers were waiting up top, one on the stairs (in case they tried to hop over the side) and two at the bottom. The kids were busted.

When taking their statements, one of the kids offered this explanation for the fight:

"That nigga stole all my weed, mayn! I wanna press rob-ree charges err sumthin!"

On a side note, when they were fighting, numerous dime-bags were scattered around the plaza area, near the entrance to Starbucks. One of the Officers on scene was in plain clothes. He caught a Starbucks worker collecting the dime-bags, and only when he identified himself as an Officer did he turn them over.
