Cars with no seats?

Bart tains are not configured for those people who stand, bring bikes or are bringing lots of luggage. If you are doing any of those things, you are constantly in somebody's way because the aisles are so narrow.

Couldn't Bart add a car to each train with no seats, just poles to hold? It could be the last car on the train or something. Maybe it could have racks on the ends for luggage and bikes. The trains in Bankok are like this and it seems to work much better.

I agree. BART benefits the

I agree. BART benefits the extra riders that go to SFO but they do it at the expense that more space is used up by travelers with their luggages. The travelers aren't to blame it's the capacity for BART to expand it's services. It's funny, they always find ways to generate more money for the system but they don't scale the system to accommodate the riders.

New design is coming that

New design is coming that will remove the seat next to senior/disabled seats (possibly even making them jump seats as well) to give more room for Wheelchairs and Bikes.

This is a fantastic idea.

This is a fantastic idea. I'd certainly go to the last car, if only to avoid the people who must push past you desperately looking for a seat. Everyone knows that car is for standing, and there would be a lot more room. You could squash a lot more people in there. The amount of seats given on BART is ridiculous anyway

But the funny thing is,

But the funny thing is, majority of commuters are lazy and always wanna board the middle cars because that's where the escalator or stairs drop them off on the platform. There will be 10 cars on the platform, but everyone is trying to squeeze themselves into the middle two or three cars. The middle cars of the train are always packed, but the lead and trail cars are never crowded. Especially on big 8,9,10 car trains.

I had a 10 car train yesterday, and the middle cars of my train were packed to overflowing, yet there were empty seats in my lead car.

Yeah, we're just a bunch of

Yeah, we're just a bunch of stupid fucks.

Its always nice when the

Its always nice when the operator announces the fact that there are seats in the front car. THANKS, WE DO APPREDIATE YOU! :)

BART will soon be testing

BART will soon be testing some new car configurations with less seating around the doorway, to allow more room for bikes, luggage, wheelchairs, other large objects, and people waiting by the doors.
To designate the last car to be seatless would be logistically time consuming, as trains are continually resized throughout the day. They also reverse directions at the end of their runs.

In the future, too, BART will be testing some different seating materials. The current seats are comfortable, but costly to maintain and are not as clean as other materials that could be used.

This is yet another broken

This is yet another broken 34-year-old promise of no standees on any BART train.

Do you really expect any

Do you really expect any company or government agency to stand behind anything for 30+ years?

Everything adapts to stay in business.. How expensive would you like BART to be?

Not to mention I don't think it's physically possible for there to be no standees. During evening commute it seems like the trains are one right after another in SF and they're all packed.

BART should be running 10

BART should be running 10 car trains during peak hours. This would help.

Straight up. It might also

Straight up.

It might also be fun to run four car trains with standing room only. Call it the frottage express. I'd definitely have to wear rubber underpants for that one!
