BART had a bad day today
No one has brought up the delays today. This morning around 730am at the San Leandro BART, there was an announced medical emergency. This caused trains to be delayed by 20-30 minutes to SF. My train from Dublin was halted for 15 minutes at Castro Valley. Then very slow from CV through San Leandro. It was rumored that a man suffered a heart attack there.
Evening commute delays too. Not too bad time-wise, around 5-10minutes out of SF. But, trains were packed pretty much all the way to Dublin. Normally, about 1/3 of D/P train riders get off at by Fruitvale, another 1/3 at Bayfair, leaving about 1/3 that ride all the way to D/P.

Change to: Man had a bad day

5-10 minutes is nothing...

yeah, the abysmal track
yeah, the abysmal track layout @ Bayfair is such a waste. If they had bothered to put in a THIRD track and secon platform instead if the mini yard, they could run around a stranded (for whatever reason) train. hope the person survived.
Agreed, A bypass would track
Agreed, A bypass would track makes a lot of sense on many stations (to late now). Just think of what a commuter mess one can make doing something stupid at West Oakland.
Amen. Gee, Pete. Don't give
Amen.
Gee, Pete. Don't give 'em ideas.
Are you afraid we will have
Are you afraid we will have suicide terrorists jumping on to the tracks at West Oakland?
I can see it now:
terrorists 1: Hey what's the plan, we need to attack San Francisco
terrorists 2: Lets get BART, that will effect the whole Bay Area.
terrorists 1: How we gonna do that, them BART Cops are too smart, they already closed all the bathrooms.
terrorists 3: I got a idea!
terrorists 2: what is it!
terrorists 1: Yes, tell us..
terrorists 3: We suicide jump onto the tracks at West Oakland, that will stop train service for almost a hour it we are messy enough.
terrorists 2: But that will only work for a hour who are we going to stop them for a day or all week?
terrorists 3: easy!! we call in our brothers and jump one at a time, all day till we run out of terror buddies !
terrorists 1: Great Idea
terrorists 2: Yes, Yes, Yes.
terrorists 3: Ok, I will get line now and post a video with a hidden message on when to strike...
May your 72 virgins have big tities!
That's not what I was
That's not what I was talking about. Though it was amusing.
Suicide or the attempt thereof is a form of attention-seeking. If someone really wants to kill themselves and go out with a bang (no pun intended)... they would probably also want to make their death as public as possible and to inconvenience as many people as possible while making their presence and existence known. West Oakland would be a great place to do it because of the huge number of trains passing through that station to/from SF.
