Temporary weekend closure of Dublin/Pleasanton Station
08.13.2007
BART will temporarily close the Dublin/Pleasanton Station August 18th and 19th as part of the construction process for a new station and transit village in West Dublin/Pleasanton. Passengers should use the Castro Valley Station to ride BART during the closures.
STATION CLOSURE DATES & TIMES
BART will close the Dublin/Pleasanton Station on the following dates:
* Saturday, August 18, 6 a.m. - 1 p.m.
* Sunday, August 19, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE
During the temporary closures BART will provide a free shuttle bus to transport passengers between Dublin/Pleasanton and Castro Valley stations from the start of service until 1 p.m.
WHY THE CLOSURE?
The yet-to-be-named new station at West Dublin/Pleasanton will be between Castro Valley and Dublin/Pleasanton stations and straddle the median of I-580 between I-680 and the San Ramon Road/Foothill Road exits.
The trackway between the Castro Valley and Dublin/Pleasanton stations needs to be free of train traffic so construction crews that are building the new station can have access to the train tracks.
This station will be the first in the BART system to be built with "smart growth" already incorporated into the design. The smart growth around the new station will include 1,200 parking spaces, 210 housing units, office space and a hotel. We anticipate opening the station in 2009.
We appreciate your patience with these service changes and we thank you for riding BART.
i wonder if they are going
i wonder if they are going to be holding a contest to name the new station? here are my ideas:
1) quilter's paradise station
2) stoneridge station
3) arthur h. breed memorial station
.
.
Thanks, PuddingPop.
Thanks, PuddingPop.
How about a combination of
How about a combination of all three ... Stoned Breeders Paradise Station? Just kidding. Seriously, Stoneridge station sounds better because of the Stoneridge Mall that is there. They should make Stoneridge Mall pay for the naming rights, so BART will have revenue.
i'd pay for naming rights.
i'd pay for naming rights. i'd cut a check for $500 bucks right now if they name it "boopie jones station"
The even bigger question
The even bigger question is:
WHY IS BART BUILDING THIS STATION???
From what I hear from those within the BART system, there is absolutely no need for this particular station.
Extending the track and constructing an East Dublin/Livermore station is much more in need, but that is not where the funding lies.
Therefore, the question MUST be: WHO is funding the construction of this new unnecessary station? And WHY???
From my understanding BART
From my understanding BART is not paying for this station to be built a private developer is as part of his master plan. He is apparently building some huge confrence center and several hotels and this is somehow going to benefit him...
You are so right. Matter of
You are so right. Matter of fact the wiring and other underground stuff was installed when the dublin/pleasanton station was built back in 1997. This was a long range project already approved years ago. You would think that they would have used their energy/money/brains to extend the tracks to Livermore. It would have taken care of the dam traffic problem that we now have. To bad for Livermore for its another slap in their face!
