BART Mechanics Leave Their Mark

Is there some reason that BART system service workers cannot clean up the big greasy footprints on the carpet that are left by BART mechanics after a car is serviced in the shop? This morning, again, with the big footprints in the doorway clearly left by someone's workboots, and accompanied by a few greasy smears. It's not likely that anyone else could leave that much grease on the car floor after hiking in from the parking lot or bus stop and up to the platform.

Better yet, how about putting down some paper on the floor or wiping off your filthy feet before stomping all over the car?

That's a big leap that a train mechanic left footprints on the carpet. More likely a rider cutting through the parking lot or bus stop and walking into a grease/oil stain. A train leaving a yard doesn't necessarily mean it was mechancially serviced in the shop.

I do hope that future rail car upgrades include removing the carpeting and replacing it with easier to clean flooring material.

Not that big a leap, really.

Not that big a leap, really. I work in a hi-line European car dealership and I can tell you that many mechanics (or TECHNICIANS as they prefer to be called these days)
are the biggest slobs you're likely to encounter this side of a homeless camp. If they'll grease up a $130k sports car just imagine what a train will look like...

bart cars dont have grease.

and the gearbox-- when these develop problems, and the oil gets hot, it puts out a telltale odor of natural gas.

when that happens mainline, the train is usually taken out of service rather quickly.

I started this topic and I've spent a few hours in a BART maintenance facililty. They damn sure do have grease. And no one is going to drag grease on their shoes from a parking lot all the way up to the station, all the way up the stairs/escalator and across the platform and leave the big fat grease stains inside the car. I've seen cars in the shop that had carpets covered with grease in and around the door threshhold.

Question is, why does BART allow this? Sure, passengers are pigs but why does BART send out a car with carpets soaked in grease? It is disgusting.

The smart aleck answer from BART will be something like "Do you want long dirty trains or short clean ones?"

its probably from a car in

its probably from a car in the parking lot that is leaking oil that someone stepped in while walking to the station
