BART and Hayward Police together
Police helicoptor and news planes circling overhead.
A rush-hour shooting at the Hayware BART station. Up to 3 people shot although, according to KRON-4 News, no one dead. One person in custody being "questioned." Trains running hrough but not stopping at the Hayward station. A bus bridge set up from Bay Fair.
Comments???

I had just entered through
I had just entered through the fare gate into the station when suddenly a burst of gunshots coming from the direction of the bus stops rang out.
*POP*POP*POP*POP*POP* five, maybe six semi auto gunshots. Some people thought it was firecrackers, most knew it wasn't. Me and a young fellow jumped behind a concrete pillar that is just inside the pay area of the station.
People were on the floor, and a bunch of people came running into the loby area of the station from the bus stops. About 20 seconds after the shots more people came in and said someone waiting for a bus was hit. And then About 90 seconds after that somebody came down from the FREMONT platform and said that somebody was hit up there while waiting. I went up to the RICHMOND platform and watched the fellow that was shot on the platform laying out with a friend who was there for support. He was shot in the leg or thigh. They rolled him out as the ststion closed. Right below at the bus stops was another fellow that layed out after being shot. I was near by as they were rolling him into the ambulance, he was talking SHIT, really worked up. And I also observed a bus driver sitting on the bus steps as paramedics talked to him. At first it sounded like he said he wasn't shot, just shook up because his bus got tagged (1 or 2 windows shot out). As the medics got his shirt off and were checking him, it appeared that they found that he was shot, somewhere between his belt and shoulders. They rolled him off, he was calling someone on his cell as they rolled him away.
It took about 7 minutes before any paramedics actrually started assisting. The fire trucks and other saftey vehicles were stationed at the corner near the Greyhound kiosk for about 5 minutes, or longer before entering the actual BART grounds. Maybe because of saftey concerns and lack of a large police presence during the first 10 minutes or so.
Weird thin is that normally there are BART cops there during that time, normally parked right on the sidewalk near the enterance to the station. Not today though, weird how that shit happens.
Then the station was closed, and it was a freakin' mess. I shared a cab to Bayfair and bounced.
I will be filling out a comment card about the STATION AGENT. He hung in there, never left his area, and was on the phone IMMEDIATLY. Wasn't all paniky, as I've seen some. He performed proffesionally. Hayward Station is a tough one to work at, always very chaotic.
Good thing he was there or else there would have been a riot.
This whole episode just makes me really sad. How can anyone think that shooting up a BART station is an acceptable option. I mean, what in the hell are these guy's thinking?
Sometimes I just don't know.............

Kudos to the Hayward agent
Kudos to the Hayward agent for a job well done. No gun, no mace, no stick, no cuffs, just a telephone. Good job.
It's ironic that BART police have been spending a fortune on police toys bought with homeland security funds but in the meantime, we have people getting shot up by local home grown thugged out terrorists. The chances are far greater that a BART passenger riding in the system will become a victim of violent "street" crime than a terrorist act committed for political reasons. BART police have all this equipment but no cops to respond to emergencies, and they have hardly any presence in stations or on trains.

Despite sincere efforts to
Despite sincere efforts to clean up the area around Hayward Bart it remains an EXTREMELY dangerous part of town.
The new condos and remodeled shops on B street can only mask the slum that lies between the Hayward station and Bayfair--an unincorporated part of San Leandro that is policed only by CHP and ACS.
Time was Bayfair was worse but the refurbishment of the mall and some added security seems to have changed that somewhat. The net to the deal is these are bad parts of town and vigilance is required.
Bayfair Mall has replaced
Bayfair Mall has replaced the Eastmont Mall as a favored hang out. After driving all the business out of Eastmont with the violence and theft, the thugs have moved into the BayFair Mall to do the same. It's only a matter of time.
Let's see: hop on BART at the Coliseum station using the elevator so they don't have to pay. Ride on down to Bayfair, exit using the elevator so they don't have to pay. Prowl around the mall, the parking lot and the theater looking for victims. Jump back on the train - without paying - and terrorize some of the passengers. Exit at Coliseum - without paying - and act as if you did nothing wrong.
I only shop at Bayfair in the morning, right after the stores open. No way I'm going to be anywhere near that Mall in the evenings when all the criminals are on the prowl.
We can blame BART to some extent, for providing the free transportation to and from the crime scene. That is not the responsibility of BART Police. It is the responsibility of BART Management who does not believe that fare evasion is a serious problem.
The overall blame belongs to the liberals in this f***ed up state who keep making excuses for the behavior of these social misfits. Revolving door criminal justice.
Very true. And Bart has
Very true. And Bart has just broken ground on the new West Dublin station. Will Stoneridge mall become the new Bayfair mall since the station will be within walking distance? I sure hope not, but you are quite right about the decline of the malls whenever ghetto trash hang out there and Bart brings 'em in.
You are also correct about Bart management's reponsibility in all this as well. Bart police will not enforce payment for fare because they get their orders from management. All Bart cares about are the commuters and even then, mostly the commuters from the better stations. After commute time, the system can go to hell.
The BART police enforce fare
The BART police enforce fare evasion on a daily basis! And then you've got other BART riders who try to help the crook out. You see the cops with someone stopped because they probably jumped the gate or didn't have enough money. Then some stranger walks up and tries to pay for them! Why do people do this? The "good citizen" obviously paid their fare. Why are they trying to help someone who obviously didn't? They probably think they're doing the right thing. Even after the woman gave the fare evader their ticket, the cop still wrote them a citation. Good job BART cop!
Who is this cop? I'd like
Who is this cop? I'd like to meet this person. Must be a rookie because the ones I know don't do that.
Just because someone gives
Just because someone gives the fare evader their ticket, does not change the fact they evaded fare. If you got pulled over for running a red light in your car and a car pulls up next to you and tells the officer that he stopped twice at the light, once for himself and once for you, should the officer let you go? You, anonymous, are an idiot!
Stoneridge Mall will be
Stoneridge Mall will be fresh meat for the bad guys. Richer, more naive victims. Sure hope Pleasanton and Dublin PDs will be ready for the increased crime rate.
What will end up happening
What will end up happening is that African Americans that go to Stoneridge will be under a higher amount of scrutiny, especially teen males. It will be unfortunate, as 95% of the young men that come in from surrounding communities just want to shop and socialize, but the rotten 5% will ruin it for everyone. If today's ghetto youth will shoot first and then rob you, as is starting to happen in San Francisco, then we are going to need a new generation of Bernie Goetz's.
Are you implying that 95% of

Why would black males want
Why would black males want to go to Stoneridge anyway? They don't have the same stores as in Bayfair or Hilltop mall. Can't buy gold teeth there.

I don't know Delgado. Your comments sound pretty darned bigoted to me. Just because you are a minority, doesn't mean you aren't a bigot.
Such stereo-typical comments are prejudicial and bigoted.
Why are you saying the
Why are you saying the comments are stereotypical and bigoted? Turn on BET and see for yourself what the youth are sporting. Big earings, baggy pants, gold teeth, big necklaces...etc.. Isn't that what's in vogue? Do you think BET is not available on cable in most areas? Are you saying only black people know what their youth like?
I, for one, didn't intend
I, for one, didn't intend them to be stereotypical or bigoted.
Scratch that. Stereotypical, possibly. Everyone stereotypes - if there was no truth behind it the stereotype never would've been started! Bigoted? Hardly.
-M. Delgado
Oh hell, just admit Bill
Oh hell, just admit Bill Cosby is right and let it go at that. Delgado is no more a bigot than the young black males who perpetuate the stereotype by dressing in those ridiculous baggy pants, wearing their do-rags and sporting those faux gold medallions and chains. Cosby is right about the language that pours out of their foul mouths too.
If you watch BET then you
If you watch BET then you know that all the kids don't dress this way. From what I've seen white, asian and hispanic teenagers are no better then the african teenagers. When out of their parents view they all act trashy. They curse call each other the n-word, smoke and act disrespectful. I witnessed this as a former Station Agent.
True, but where did they get
True, but where did they get this style from? Ah, from the white boys.

Baggy pants came from the
Baggy pants came from the jailhouse issue clothes that were baggy and without a belt to hold them up. It's also a handy way to guess someone's IQ by how high or low the waistband is.
Actually, it started in the
Actually, it started in the California Prison system. Prisoners used to be able to wear their own clothes in Prison until the gang problem got out of control. After that, they made them all wear uniforms so they could not fly their gang colors. The prisoners figured out how to get around that. They got their pants several sizes too big and wrote their gang slogans on their boxeer shorts. When they were near a guard, they would bunch up their pants and hold them up. When they got into the yard, they would let them drop so all could see their gang affiliation. Pretty scary when you realize our youth find role models in the Prison system, huh?
