Today's Delays
Had to laugh during today's round of delays that affected the AM Richmond train; even though the train was late the TO kept stopping between stations for what he called a "speed check." Guess he wanted to make sure there was no way the thing could possibly wind up being on time....

I had the same thing happen
I had the same thing happen this morning. It took forever getting out of the Transbay tube because of delays earlier. It was funny because the TO kep telling us in very clear detail why there was a delay. It was nice that he did that because often we are left in the dark.
I've been noticing TO's being more informative to riders and they go out of the way to keep us informed. Best yet...more thank you comments from TO's are nice to hear.
On the train I was riding we
On the train I was riding we were in the tube during the delay so the TO went over the emergency procedures just in case there comes a time when we have to evacuate a train while in the tube.
We kept starting and
We kept starting and stopping through the Trans-Bay Tube last night. The night before, we were kicked out of the lead car after the lights went out on the way home and told to go two cars back but they didn't tell anyone boarding the train that. On the way in, same thing. Last night, someone also barfed on the platform at Embarcadero, it was so gross and it stunk and there was a couple sitting right next to it. some people, but i was glad at least it wasn't on the train. i really feel sorry for BART janitors.
And today we had yet another
And today we had yet another incident---one of the wheezing old wrecks gave it up at Bayfair and had to be taken out of service. It's gotten to the point where I'm asking the station agent for a daily "delay update" before I enter the station so I can decide whether to wait it out or just drive to work.
Sorry about that. However,
Sorry about that. However, there was a suspicious item reported on that train, and it was removed from service for your safety. No word on what the item turned out to be.
Your request for a daily update is legitimate. They're working on something like that. It can't come out soon enough. I wonder if they are just in denial regarding delays.
Why doesn't BART have
Why doesn't BART have something online like Muni's NextBus so that you can see the flow of train traffic before you go to the station? I already know the answer, having worked at BART. The announcements they give about delays often have no basis in reality. BART doesn't tell the truth about delays because they are afraid passengers will just get in their cars and drive so they tell the media about 15 minute delays that are in acutality a lot longer. If BART implemented an online real time train arrival system, BART passengers would end up flocking into their cars when they see how long they really have to wait for the next train. There is no political pressure on BART to make that kind of info available.
Not to rag on BART too much, because when BART is running well, you can set your watch by the train schedule. But when it gets bad, it just falls apart.
Sounds like the
Sounds like the airlines...when it's good no one takes notice, but drop some weather and mechanical issues and the new media hounds are eating that up...
