Yes, there are elevators.
Yes, there are elevators. You may have to hold your nose when you step into it.
There are also escalators in the BART station, in addition to traditional stairs.
I think the ultimate answer to your question depends on how far your destination is from the BART station. If it's close by, it *might* be worth the savings to take BART (which will be $10 per adult, if I remember the current fares correctly).
I think they've just jacked the cab rates up again in the past month or two, so expect a cab fare to be somewhere between $40 & $50 (not including tip).
Good luck!

If you're staying at the Hyatt Regency, the Embarcadero Station is just steps away. The elevator from the platform to the concourse is one phase of your exit process. When you reach the concourse level, be sure to locate the fare gates and enter the paid area via the swing gate to process your ticket out. If this sounds confusing (it is), see the BART station agent. At mid-station, against the wall, there is a concourse to street level elevator. Take a deep breath. You end up on the north side of Market Street. The Ferry Building will be to the east and Twin Peaks to the West.
If you intend to take BART back to SFO - I'd suggest buying round trip tickets at SFO. Each person must have a ticket and you can purchase multiple tickets via credit card. Ask the agent for assistance before ending up buying a high value ticket. A R/T ticket makes your entry at Embarcadero much easier.

Do they ever clean the stairwells at this station going up to Market Street, THE SMELL IS SO NASTY!
