BART POLICE AID PERVERT

On Saturday, 9/30, 2006 about 10:00 a.m. I boarded a SF/Daly City train at Macarthur Station. I was the only person on the last car. Ten minutes later, a man sat across the aisle from me, I had a large duffel bag sitting between us. I noticed some vague rapid motion and then realized he was mastubating while watching me. I then attempted to leave my seat with my belongings and go to the next car. Instead, the man masturbating got up, exposing his dribbling erection, and walked ahead into the next car (all in front of the video camera). On Monday, 10/2 at 12:30pm I reported the incident to BART police on the phone. They said Officer Moore, #484 would contact me when his shift started at 4pm. I gave them my work number. He left a message at 9:24pm. The next day, Tuesday, I called again, and was told again that Officer Moore would handle my report. He called me around 4:45pm Tuesday. When I asked about the videotape of the incident, I was told that the camera only records for 72 hours, so it couldn't be retrieved (and then that same tape gets re-recorded over and over?). However, I reported the incident exactly 50 hours after it happened. There was no excuse for BART not to pull the tape from that car. THEY SIMPLY DON'T CARE, THEY (POLICE) ARE MAKING $65 - 100,000 per year. If I had been raped and indirectly murdered by transmission of HIV or Hep C, I would consider BART an accomplice for aiding in the hiding of the exhibitionist/rapist/murderer's identity. As it is now, I consider BART an accomplice in perverted activity directed towards women. BART should at least post a message to the public that incidents on tapes are available for only 72 hours, and THEY DON'T RETRIEVE THE TAPES IF THEY DON'T FEEL LIKE IT.

you should have reported it

you should have reported it when it happened. Even if they had found the tape, what are they supposed to do? It's not like the guy held his drivers license up to the video camera. If you see the guy again, and you're *SURE* it's him, call the bart police at that time and give them the car number you're in. If they're not busy, maybe they'll show up and do something.

I thought most of those

I thought most of those cameras were decoys. Can someone please enlighten?

some are decoys you can tell

some are decoys you can tell from the outside of the car just look closely and you'll see the clue. women should sit in the first car if they are worried about being harrased and in this case she should have gone to another car and called the operator.

Actually, it's the cameras

Actually, it's the cameras that you cannot see that you should be afraid of. Every car has hidden cameras. They are digital and the photos are downloaded to a server every few hours. Don't commit a crime! you will get caught.

What is it with these shitty

What is it with these shitty posts? The "victim" waited 2 days after the incident to report this and she's angry the police didn't jump all over it? When she finally reported the incident to BART Police.......blah, blah, blah. Unbelieveable! It's a good thing she did not open her mouth when the guy was jacking off.......he would have lost his erection.....

Here's another person who

Here's another person who doesn't understand anything about police work, but is overly critical of the police when something doesn't go the way they THOUGHT it should.

Here are several issues with this incident:

1) The victim waited two days to make a report and didn't even make an attempt to make a call to BART police or use the train intercom.

2) A "phone report" is deemed a low priority since it is not actually in progress. Keeping this in mind, it's possible that the BART police officer was tied up on an in progress call before he/she could handle the phone report. Seeing that the officer called you at 9:24PM, it's likely this was the case. If you were getting robbed on a train, would you prefer the officer be sitting at a desk taking phone reports or responding to apprehend the robber?

3) Obviously, by the time the officer got a hold of you, it had been over 72 hours since the incident had occurred. Perhaps if you had taken a few minutes to report the crime sooner than 50 hours later, the police would have had the tape removed.

4) Using your same reasoning for making the BART police responsible for aiding, or acting as an accomplice to the incident, YOU could consider yourself equally responsible since you allowed the suspect 50 hours to make his escape.

And by the way, based on your times and dates, you reported the incident EXACTLY 50.5 hours after the incident happened.

I have to believe that the

I have to believe that the initial post is a set-up. No one could be that helpless and clueless. If this post is legit, it would be more proof that the average human being is just dumb as a board.

I'm a woman and if that had happened to me, everybody on the train would have known what was happening, starting with the train operator. I also know the number of BART dispatch and I would have called them directly.

By the way folks, BART police HQ is located at Lake Merritt Station. Any time you have a problem, nearing that station, there should always be a cop available to respond, even if it's a paper pushing lieutenant.

Some of the gripes on this site raise some interesting issues. Some are unmitigated BS like waiting for days to report a crime then bitching like a big dog when the cops don't respond fast enough or whining about a ticket you got in the BART parking lot because you forgot your stall number.

Picking up on the reasoning

Picking up on the reasoning of #4, the poster is actually even more culpable then BART police since she is responsible for over 2/3 of the delay where BART is responsible for 1/3.

If you ride BART and have a

If you ride BART and have a cell phone like many riders do, do yourself and everyone around you a favor by storing the BART Police number in your phone. It's 877-679-7000.

Don't block your phone

Don't block your phone number. Cell phones drop the call when you go thru the tunnels and underground, if you block your number the dispatchers can't call you back and finish the call or get any updates on the situation.

What exactly is a "dribbling

What exactly is a "dribbling erection"?

no dribbling inside the key

no dribbling inside the key

It means he got

It means he got off....Recently

thats fucking disgusting.

thats fucking disgusting. you should just take a knife and chop off the guys dick next time.

I really feel for ya, but

I really feel for ya, but you should have went to the button called the drives or dialed 911 from a cell. You could have also asked some other riders to keep him at bay and proceed with a citizens arrest until the cops got there. I am sure this dude was a registered sex offender or had a warrant out on him or both.

Yes........yes....I am..

Yes........yes....I am..

I feel so sorry for you! You

I feel so sorry for you! You ride a train from MacArthur towards SF and while you are on the train you have a pervert masturbating next to you. You are so disturbed by the pervert that you get up and move to the next train. You then wait over 2 days (50 hrs) to report the person to the Police. What do you expect when you take your sweet a** time to report something like that? Even if there was video, did you know what train car number you were on, or even the exact train you were on? My guess is that you did not know any of the following.

One last question is Why would you wait so long to report such a crime and expect something to be done? Have you lived in a hole for the last 50 years?

I.......yes....I WAS the

I.......yes....I WAS the pervert in that story......

did he cum?

did he cum?

Nice to see that you were SO

Nice to see that you were SO offended that you reported it right away so that he could caught and arrested. Shame on YOU, not the BART Police.
