Here we go again with Embarcadero escalators

It's been down for the last 5 days and had the whole 3 day weekend to fix it. What is up with the Bart Technicians? Then on top of it, they took the other one down right down the street. My god....

Has anyone talked about the

Has anyone talked about the 12th St. escalators that lead to the plaza that have been down for over two years? I don' think these are BART's responsibiiity, I think it's the City of Oakland or Shorenstein, which owns the plaza. When the BART escalators go down, there is no way to get to the street level to the plaza unless you take the stairs, which isn't possible for everyone. There is a schedule posted for the escalator reapair work but absolutely no work is being done.

The down escalators at 12th

The down escalators at 12th Street are the city centers not BART. I heard they were shutdown by inspectors.

And unless they are rehabing an escalator, or waiting for a part, BART get the escalators running in less than 12 hours.

I can't believe other BART

I can't believe other BART riders aren't just a little annoyed by this. I contacted SF Chronicle Watch a year ago and they never reported on it. Then last spring, they had a follow up of a few weeks when the darn things had been down for over a year and a half. It's been so long I can't remember if it's been two or three years.

Somebody remind me again of how efficient the private sector is.

I believe Shorenstein is

I believe Shorenstein is going to replace all the escalators that lead to city center plaza from BART. But the estimated delivery and installation is being measured in years instead of months.

Those of you who work in

Those of you who work in buildings that have escalators: how often are your escalators broken? Not very often, right? It's a sign of BART's general ineptitude that *their* escalators break down all the time.

It is actually caused by

It is actually caused by BART's cost cutting. They use defered(sp?) maintenence to save money. It causes lots of problems even a derailment about 15 years ago near 12th street but they keep using it. How much it actually saves is open to debate in my opinion. I recommend filling out a complaint card every day that it is broken. Not that it will really make it get repaired any faster but perhaps they will get the idea that it is pissing off the riders.

IN buildings would seem to

IN buildings would seem to be the key. The escalators at Embarcadero (and many other stations) are exposed to the outside elements. So maybe it's not general ineptitude but rain that's causing their escalators to break down all the time?

So, what is the problem?

So, what is the problem? American's are, so damm fat and lazy, they can't walk down a flight of stairs? GEESH is that all you do is BITCH, about such small problems in life? Get off you ass--walk and grow up, already!!

It's a California thing, I'm

It's a California thing, I'm from NY and the subway is dirty and many stations don't have escalators. I don't think there are many BART stations that don't have an escalator or more.
Live in a socialist state and deal with it.. I'm not a bum, but if I had to be one, I'd head to SF..

Yes! Thank you, unless you

Yes! Thank you, unless you are injured the stairs are best & escalators should be stoipped to save $ for better seats, etc.

Actually, I'm almost 60

Actually, I'm almost 60 years of age, and close to needing a cane to walk, you arrogant son of bitch. If some of you can bitch about your free parking subsidy and how awful it is that you have to actually pay to use transit, I think I'm entitled to bitch about broken down facilities. Twelfth Street Station is used by a lot of disabled people due to its proximity to the federal building, which hires a lot of disabled people. And spare your insults about disabled people because I'm not disable, yet, and I don't work at the federal building. Putz.

I bet your hat size is bigger than your IQ.

If you cant take the stairs,

If you cant take the stairs, use the elevator, gramps.
