How do you become a train operator?
I've been unable to find listings on the job website, do you need to know a operator to become one? Do you need any skills before becoming one or do they teach you anything you don't know but need to know while on the job? Thanks.

There's an earlier thread about this. Short version: Keep checking http://www.bart.gov/jobs. They are listed from time to time.
LOL 2007!
LOL 2007!
They have not listed one in
They have not listed one in OVER TWO YEARS.
The fact is they NEVER list these jobs. They go to friends and relatives of people in the unions.
UNFAIR hiring practices.
_______
PS: You have to have something like 2-6 years experience in another transit company before they will look at you. They train you for everything for BART so you do not actually need to know anything, but they demand the experience anyway since they only want to give their jobs to other Transit Union Employees.
They have not posted since
They have not posted since 2005. You have to start out part time. Bartarded you are totally wrong about having experience from another transit agency. I did not come from another transit agency. I did not know anyone in BART to get hired. I just applied and when called took all the test.
Well good to know I am wrong
Well good to know I am wrong but are you saying they have not posted a job since 2005?????
What the hell????
I agree with you what the
I agree with you what the hell. I applied in 2005. They called me 2 years later in 2007. Well it has been 3 years now and I am still part time.
What horse shit!
What horse shit!
They exhaust the current
They exhaust the current lists before posting another call for applications. You shouldn't be wondering about the Union thing, because YES that's a factor, but also race and ethnicity are a factor too. Can't have too many White Boys, they gotta be diverse.
Actually, it's a roll of the dice on who gets hired and who don't after the discrimination thing.
What a RETARDED way to run a
What a RETARDED way to run a business!
If they were private sector they would have gone out of business YEARS ago.
You don't need to know an
You don't need to know an operator to be hired. The qualifications changes every so often at one time you did need transit experience to be considered but now it's just customer service. They do train you, it's usually a 12-15 week course.
