Holy s***! Woman survives being run over by a bart train
Woman lives after being run over by BART train
This happened Saturday night at the Rockridge station. All I can say is that she is one lucky woman....

It has happened a number of
It has happened a number of times. The space between the rails vary from station to station, but when factored in with speed in of the in-bound train, the T/O's ability to spot and engage the red button (emergency stop), the knock-down profile of the victim at point of contact and a bit of luck - she survives. Granted there's a lot of undercarriage gear that reduces clearance, but if nothing gets snagged, again she survives. Any possibility she was in the crawlspace under the lip of the platform?
Gheese, a couple of weeks ago
Gheese, a couple of weeks ago they had a woman on the tracks at Orinda and we had to back up the train and pick her up.
Today, at Concord, I see a guy get off the train, he waits for the train to depart, then he jumps down onto the tracks on Platform 1 (where the Ninth Car boards to SF on Platform 2), TOUCHING THE THIRD RAIL with his shoe as he uses the third rail to spring off of to run down the hill, jump the fence onto the top of the bike lockers or keep trucking through the bushes and he's off. this is a NEW FORM OF FARE EVADING; I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw his shoe touch the third rail and he wasn't toast. Guess you have to hit underneath the covering on top to get shocked.
Wow.
did he actually use the rail
did he actually use the rail or the coverboard over the rail?
I've heard the coverboards
I've heard the coverboards can be brittle from UV exposure. Not worth the risk, but that's me.

40 years in the outdoors that
40 years in the outdoors that would make them pretty brittle, unless they've replaced them at some time.
Coverboards are replaced as
Coverboards are replaced as they break, which happens more than you'd think, so I'm sure there aren't any left that have 40 years on them.
he used cover board over the
he used cover board over the rail but they are WAY OLD. I always worry about the birds landing on there too. I've seen electrocuted coyotes, etc., along the tracks between Concord and PH.
I was going to stop and let the station agent know today but he looked away when I approached so I decided not to bother becuase I figured he could care less.
That was also a Saturday night with the woman on the tracks at Orinda. More fun weekends on BART. When you add the 15 minute delay in at Lafayette, trying to get around on BART on a weekend unless you drive to Orinda is a joke. The train always gets to the affluent stations, notice that?
I remember I saw someone pull
I remember I saw someone pull something similar when I was four or five years old, so it must have been either 1996 or 97. It was at Bayfair and this guy jumped onto the Platform 2 tracks then onto the roof below the tracks that house the ticket machines. He jumped down off of the roof from there and I don't know what happened to him after. All I remember thinking was, "Wow, this guy is stupid."
