Hello, BARTRagers! It's been a while since I've been on here, quite a bit going on personally and professionally, so I do apologize.

As you may know, I'm not one to gossip, especially about coworkers, but my gosh, something happened the other day that I wanted to share and get feedback from any Station Agents, Police Officers, System Service folks, or anyone who has had the pleasure of being placed in a similar circumstance.

Recently, a particular BART "yanitor", whom I will not name, was gossiping about various BART employees, and my name was brought up. This "yanitor" didn't have anything too nice to say about me, and was even stooping to the level of speaking about my personal life to a friend of mine, who brought it to my attention.

Then, later that afternoon, the yanitor in question asked a station agent to call the police about something that she supposedly saw. When I see the yanitor, she puts on her usual fake attitude towards me, and disappears into the cleaning supply room, before I could ask her what was going on and what her problem was.

What is with this woman? This is not the first time I've had issues with her, or she has talked about me behind my back and then put on a front to my face. I know she talks about station agents, police officers, and her fellow system service workers, because I've heard her.

Why the heck hasn't she been fired yet? I hear yesterday she even flipped the bird to a passenger. What will it take? Who are her connections? Has anyone had any problems with her?

Feedback appreciated, and please - no names! If you know who I'm speaking of, great. If not, I don't plan on mentioning her name so please don't ask.

I can't these sorts of

I can't these sorts of actions are just limited to BART. The last two employers prior to being hired at BART were just as guilty. Of course I don't blame the employer, but those individuals who feel the need to stoop to such low levels. None of my employers ever took any sort of recourse when information was presented due to discourteous type of actions.

While at BART now I have seen these same sort of actions, but sometimes worse than I ever experienced before. While I have never been the target, I have overheard others and sometimes been rather shocked and appalled at what I just heard. I think it's the unions to blame, they are so damn strong and even defend the actions when the party in question is guilty. The employee receives a slap on the wrist and keeps on receiving a paycheck.

I disagree that it's just a union problem. During the time I was at BART, I saw management shuffle any number of non union management people around to different departments or locations to mitigate interpersonal conflicts as well as incompetence.

I can only think of a very few instances of non union employees being fired for any reason in the nearly 24 years that I was there.

BART's a warm and fuzzy, posies and sunshine workplace for all, union and non union alike.

nice to have you back! i hope all is well.

i think every "office" has at least one of these people. i agree with return ato that unions make it all but impossible to fire the bad seeds, even after they have flipped off a passenger/client.

i just try to maintain a professional relationship with this type of person, and if they start in with the gossip i just tell them i don't want to hear it. if the office gossips don't have anyone that will listen to their crap, they can't gossip...

Even non-union workplaces

Even non-union workplaces have a hard time getting rid of people if they don't bother to document complaints, unless they want to get sued for discrimination. I wouldn't blame this on unions so much as lazy supervisors and middle managers. And the fact that companies only try and make the workplace decent because they have to by law.

you need to document every time something like this comes up...have your friend document it to her boss as well...if she is 1/2 the cancer that you say she is than it is just a matter of time before her bosses realize it

seems like it goes on in pretty much every office...

this employee sounds kind of like a jerk, but what do you really expect to be done about it?

At least now I know that there is a reason for the trains and stations being so grimy. The yanitors are busy talking shit about people. Less gossiping, more disinfecting, please.

Yeah, except without - you know - mentioning who this person is?

It was more intended as an information/opinion gathering thread than a personal attack on her, and I think the majority of the BARTRAgers go that much.
