Dorothy Lied

After 4 and a half months of extortion the BART Workers gave up $100 million dollars in work rules and benefits. Then Dorothy wrote a letter saying that was enough and all workers would be protected against any more cuts, especially layoffs.

She lied and is now trying to wiggle out of her letter by saying that what she said is not what she said and what she meant was not what we understood.

The first round of layoffs is with Temporary System Service Workers. They were cut without notifying the Union or giving them any advance notice so they could seek other jobs within or outside of BART. In her most recent letter, Dorothy eludes that it is only the start of the cuts.

Remember the first rule of dealing with BART.

The sure fire way to tell if a BART Manager is lying. If their lips are moving, they are lying.

The Union is now seeking legal advice to set aside work rule agreements that were negotiated in good faith with the condition of protection for workers against layoffs.

Of course they were lying (or

Of course they were lying (or a very stretched manipulation of words), duh...

Everyone at BART, Unions, Families, Friends, Contractors, even Mary Poppins knows BART does not state facts, only made-up assumptions, projections, and imaginary numbers..

You would have had to be a clueless idiot (like it seemed a lot the public was during the contracts) to believe what they say.. Even the workers were duped, especially when you have lawyers writing a contract about their job, when they don't understand legal talk, or don't even get the full contract before signing.

My friends still to this day do not have a complete contract in their hands..

So are what is the point? The clueless public will never admit they are wrong, they will never support front line men and women of a company.. They are clearly in the pants of the corporate greed of the business management. Remember the chants of fire the workers (as if we need higher unemployment also) and get cheaper workers (I can see Illegal workers lining up now). Look through this board, Email and ask them if they feel differently now than then, they won't.

Don't be clueless, this is just the beginning, from friends I have heard there are more coming. They will cut until the public starts to notice how bad, and dirty things are and how few employees are there to help. If you've been on BART for more than 10 years, open your eyes, how does it look? BART is all about numbers, cut until it affects something.

The workers weren't "cut" as

The workers weren't "cut" as you put it, their contracts were just not renewed.

They were TEMPORARY workers. It's in their job title "TEMPORARY System Service Workers."

When the word "temporary" is in your job title you have to be a real idiot to think you have any sort of job security.

The crappy service is right

The crappy service is right behind the crappy contracts. That sucks. All those temp workers are the scrub and cleaning crews. I think any worker that takes five minutes to get on a train at a whistle stop, now HIS Contract shouldn't be renewed.

Seriously, we need to get Dorothy, et al., OUT!

Do you have any sort of

Do you have any sort of rational argument or are you just venting?

It's not just the temps--it's

It's not just the temps--it's all workers. I've seen several lists floating around of potential cuts--almost all SEIU but a few AFSCME (no management, surprise surprise). It pisses me off because, when being told to vote for the new piece of shit contract, it was repeatedly stated that there would be no layoffs and that any cuts would be through attrition.

More and more work is being dumped on fewer and fewer people in all departments, with absolutely no reward possible for doing a good job.

What they're doing now is plain old psychological torture--issuing vague memos about possible forthcoming layoffs, lists with names leaking here and there, managers refusing to say who will and won't be cut

Does anyone *really* think that, when the economy turns around, BART will reward us? Hell no. I've never seen a place that cares less for its employees and it amazes me that most employees still care as much as they do.

Plus, announcing layoffs is SHEER STUPIDITY on the part of BART management. Now, people who were considering retiring will stick around to get their contract-mandated severance, then retire.

If you hate working at BART

If you hate working at BART so much and the environment is so hostile, why do you stay there? If I hated my job as much as you appear to I would quit immediately.

There are jobs outside of

There are jobs outside of BART. Hell there are several other transit systems right here in the bay area.

Because it's important to

Because it's important to keep people moving in the Bay Area. The truth of the matter is that the people running the trains: from the TO's and Station Agents to the engineers and computer programmers have almost all been there far longer than the people brought in to run the place.

You could eliminate 50% of management tomorrow and the trains would still run. The same can't be said of non-management.

BART has lots of "managers" who "supervise" only one or two employees. What's the point of this other than to provide featherbed jobs for their friends.

Like I said before, if you

Like I said before, if you hate working at BART so much and the environment is so hostile, quit and get another job.

There are plenty of people who would be happy to take your place.

They should lay off only

They should lay off only slackers. if you are a hard worker, you don't have to worry. if you don't think this job is paying you enough, get a real job.

Yeah, that's the only problem

Yeah, that's the only problem with having the union stick up for you. Management is very creative in ways to punish the employees in ways that can't be measured or defended against.
