EZ Rider Card Frustration!!!
I made the switch from the stupid magnetic cards, that demagnetize far too easily, to the "hassle-free" EZ Rider card about a year now and I wish I could say it has made my life easier...
Over the past month the RFID card has been working intermittently (at best). I have regularly had issues with my card working at my entry station and then telling me to "see agent" on my way out. This is extraordinarily inconvenient, because I have to get my card reset to then enter for my commute trip home. The great thing is, they want me to replace my card because they think I damaged it, even though it works flawlessly as a form of payment for THEIR parking system.
The BART team managed to find a payment system that does not correct, but replaces the existing inconvenience of demagnetized cards with a different but equally challenging issue. At least with the paper cards I was in charge of making sure my payment system worked. I could prevent it from touching my ipod or cell phone and becoming demagnetized. Now I'm trapped by a system that makes no sense and I'm expected to purchase another, possibly faulty card, to correct an issue that has had zero explanation other than it is my card. Why would my card work for payment but not for travel???
Casual carpool and and an AC Transit home are looking more appealing every day.

I've never had any kind of
I've never had any kind of problem with my ezrider card.
I'm currently on EZRider card
I'm currently on EZRider card #2. Although they don't demagnetize like the vended tickets, they are RFID based and are fragile. My first card I was not as careful with as I had it connected to my work lanyard with my work ID card on it. It got banged up way too much and I started to experience what you saw with your card. So, I had it replaced and now keep it at all times in a special compartment in my wallet. The cool thing is that the card readers can read through my wallet and pick up the RFID tag with out removal, so I literally never touch the card. All I do is touch my wallet to the reader.
my ez rider card stopped
my ez rider card stopped working about a year ago. same thing as your card. it became more and more difficult to scan the card, and eventually it just crapped out. although the station agents never had a problem reading the card in their booth...strange.
come to think of it, i never closed out the account - they probably owe me about $40 that they have on file from my last automatic reload...
I started using the EZ card
I started using the EZ card during the pilot program. Still have my original that I keep in my wallet. I have been experiencing more and more problems with it lately. I do know that you have to hold it over the reader and many times pause for a second or two to get the read. If you pull it away too fast I get the "See Agent" message. I used to be able to let the reader reset and re-swipe it, but that doesn't seem to be working as much now.
BART ruins almost everything
BART ruins almost everything it touches.
The only way the EZ Rider program would be surprising is if it worked WELL.
