Wifi Rail

What a useless gimmick. I don't think I've ever been able to log onto it. Maybe I'm expecting too much by trying to use it on the train, but who really sits on the platform using their laptop?
I tried to connect to download an iTunes file, and I wasn't even able to log in at the login screen before I had to exit the train. Four stops and no wifi. So stupid.

It works pretty well if
It works pretty well if you're stuck on the platform waiting for a train, but I agree that it's not really useful from the train itself.....
I don't think it is supposed
I don't think it is supposed to work on the trains, just at the platforms. Which is kind of silly.
Maybe there are plans to expand service to the tunnels?
it def. works in the tunnel
it def. works in the tunnel as long as you sign in while still on the platform. i've had luck putting in my login info, hitting "log in," and then waiting for it to load. when it doesn't, i click "take our survey" and that usually lets me freely browse the web. i do this on my iPod touch.
it's not perfect but it's free for now.
I have used the wifi on
I have used the wifi on occasion, and it works decently on the platform. But I for one am not looking forward to an expansion throughout the system. If the last sfgate article on Wi-fi Rail is correct, then the cost will be prohibitive, the free version will be crippled, the contract will last an insanely long time (20 years for the same WiFi?), and thus it will be completely useless.
By the time Wi-Fi Rail rolls out, hopefully cellular data plans will be more reasonable and be extended throughout Bart, so we won't have to deal with this stupidity for long. Who wants yet another login for every location they get Internet access?
Just my take on WiFi Rail:
Just my take on WiFi Rail: The title is a bit misleading. The advertising should read: "Best used while stationary." I found wandering around Montgomery Sta. WiFi Rail worked as advertised. Going station to station on the train - well, that's another matter.
Who sits on the platform
Who sits on the platform using their laptops?, you ask. People who want to get those laptops snatched out of their hands by fast 16-22 year olds, while their accomplices are punching you from behind. See also: who sits near the door of the training working on their laptops, especially Mac's. Don't do it! Keep your head up and be aware. They are out there trolling and looking for YOU!
I haven't seen the guy with
I haven't seen the guy with the sleep mask and the headphones who leaves his laptop bag at his feet right next to the front door lately. I wonder if he got "encouraged" to change his ways.
