You expect us to cheer on the

You expect us to cheer on the union too?

just because she is

just because she is ill-informed and trying to get union workers to listen to her low-in-the-ratings show doesn't mean any of us care about her opinion

unless she has some **new** information why bother listening?
it will just be the same things already talked about here

This piece is hilarious.

This piece is hilarious. thanks for posting it.

Listening to them talk about Bus drivers, TOs, SAs, etc, it seems like their jobs are so difficult and dangerous, its easier and safer to join the military than BART/Muni. :) its really funny.

Have you ever been assaulted

Have you ever been assaulted for asking a passenger to pay their fare.
The job is not super difficult but it can be dangerous.

SA's on this forum have

SA's on this forum have always maintained that they never confront the passengers. So asking a passenger to pay their fare is never an issue as far as SA's are concerned.

I'm referring to the bus

I'm referring to the bus drivers.

Are Bus drivers in Muni

Are Bus drivers in Muni required to confront non-paying passengers? If so, Muni must have a handbook for the drivers which tells them what to do, if a passenger does not pay up.

No, ALL bus drivers are to

No, ALL bus drivers are to state the fare once and that's it but it's the repeated offenders is the problem. If he/she encounters a repeat offender they are supposed to call for a supervisor.

Yes bus drivers get

Yes bus drivers get assaulted, and no they are not supposed to confront, they are supposed to let the police handle volitile situations ( or just drive on to stay on schedule).

I know a bus driver that is stupid/brave, and has gotten assaulted for doing it. I know both BART and bus people that have been assaulted for merely suggesting to some ghetto folks to pay.

Due to the lack of police in the stations, some Agents try to keep the stations under control by reporting or detaining some fare evaders and placing them under citizens arrest. Some don't care since it is not their job. Hang out at the 19th station at the 17th street end and count how many fare evaders come up that elevator or just walk out, it will amaze you.

it is in their contracts that

it is in their contracts that they are not supposed to confront fare evaders or criminals in the system.
not sure why they would say on the radio show that they do that when they do not.

i think the most they do is call the bart cops.

SA do not call the BARt cops.

SA do not call the BARt cops. It takes them too long to come. A Station Agent cannot keep a person there id they are trying to exit without a ticket. BART can be sued for unlawful detention. We are "suppose" to ask 3 questions:

Do you have money?
Do you have someone you can call to bring you money?
Do you have ID so I can write you a bill?

If they say "no" to all of these, it is considered fare evasion ansd we are suppose to call police. IF they comply to either one we proceed as necessary.

In most cases, we ask the questions and if every answer is "NO" we fuss at them a little and ultimately let them leave because BART police takes too long to come. Additionally, BPD dont want to deal with fare evasion either

Its easier to prevent fare evasion upon enter versus exiting.

Exactly what i thought. As

Exactly what i thought. As long as SAs and Muni drivers look the other way, fare evaders have no reason to assault them. What are the other things that they do, would get them assaulted? In the talk show, the comedy was that these workers were being almost hailed as Everyday Heroes. I really found it funny.

So should someone working at

So should someone working at Target, Walmart, 7-Eleven or any retail get paid thousands because they could be held up?

stillstillstillantiunion's picture

yes should night workers at

yes should night workers at 7-11 get paid $96k per year because they get held up sometimes?
