Parking During the Strike

Does anyone know whether BART parking lots be available to use during the strike in the event anyone has to catch a nearby bus?

And if we can park at the lots, will there be any patrols in them or will the parking lots be completely lawless?

BART police are not going to

BART police are not going to strike, and can't strike by law. Most of the time the people who work with the police are in a different union, probably the afscme. I don't know if the parking enforcement folks will be working or not, but the cops will be.

BART Police have their own

BART Police have their own unions, BPOA for the actual police officers and another one for the police supervisors. the parking enforcement people are contracted companies so they'll probably still be working, I asked about parking at stations from @SFBART on twitter, but did not get an answer.

lucifer - if you get an answer from @sfbart, please post it on the official strike thread. thanks!

Do the BART police give

Do the BART police give parking tickets? I have only seen BART union employees (meter maids) doing that in the past?

the "meter maids" are not

the "meter maids" are not BART union employees, they work for a separate company under contract to BART to patrol the parking lots, BART police will give citations for parking but only if you're parked Illegally, not because you didn't pay for parking or things like that.

I am sorry I thought they

I am sorry I thought they were Union since they wear BART Uniforms. Will they also be on strike when Monday comes?

No, but I don't know if BART

No, but I don't know if BART will be charging for parking during a possible strike either.

I wouldn't risk it. The

I wouldn't risk it. The tickets for parking violations are around $200 aren't they?

Lucifer, you couldn't be more

Lucifer, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. The people who do parking enforcement for BART do in fact work for BART directly and are not from a privatized company. We are not meter maids but Community Service Officers (CSOs) and we are also members of the BPOA (BART Police Officers Union), although we are civilians and are not sworn. Technically, we as civilians could strike, but we're not. We will continue to work thru the strike and will not be enforcing parking FEES or PERMITS at any stations. We will still enforce handicapped parking, red/yellow/white zones, and anyone blocking or creating their own parking areas.

Anyone need to know anything else about parking? I'm not commenting on the labor agreements, but I'm more than happy to answer any parking related questions you might have.
