It's really not that simple, Yes, the original design before any cars were built or track was laid was for a driverless system, but reality intruded and the system was re-designed to have a Train Operator (not train driver) on the train mostly in case something goes wrong, which it quite often does. The TO's do much more than "open and close the doors". But you're not really interested in that, you just think that someone you believe is of a lower social class than you doesn't deserve any respect or a living wage.
