You broke the law. You got

You broke the law.
You got caught.

Why not man up and take your just punishment instead of trying to weasel out of it?

And what exactly is your

And what exactly is your defence?

Why should he make a defense

Why should he make a defense for his actions when B.A.R.T. needs no defense for raising faires every months while making service worse and worse good?

He doesn't and he shouldn't.

He doesn't and he shouldn't. I asked that question because I wanted to know why he would open an account on this forum and immediately post this. I think he must has been shamelessly cheating the BART and Riders for a long time and once he got caught, he had the nerve to post this and ask for our opinion.

How did you procure the red

How did you procure the red ticket? Eligibility information should have been delineated to you at that time. It is very important for the discounted tickets program not to be abused. I am so glad someone stopped and cited you! In order to rectify this morally reprehensible offense, you should pay the entirety of your ticket (unless you are a qualified RTC discount ID card holder and this was indeed a mistake) and then go volunteer at Laguna Honda Hospital for a few hours, changing bed pans.

On the back of the red

On the back of the red tickets it says very clearly that they are for use by persons under the age of 12, RTC discount card holders and students on field trips. Is also states that BART has the right to ask for proof of eligibility at any time. The BART website states that you must have your RTC card with you any time you use a red ticket. If you don't qualify then I would say you are just going to have to pay the fine. If you have an RTC card fight it and they'll likely wave the fine. I think the fine itself it like $250

why did you have the red

why did you have the red ticket in the first place?

do you qualify for the ticket but didn't have proof to show the cop? if so, i'd say you should provide proof of your eligibility when contesting the ticket and i would hope that they would waive the ticket based on that evidence.

but if you were illegally using the ticket, then i would sack up and pay the fine and use the correct blue ticket from now on...

I’m surprised you got a

I’m surprised you got a ticket for that violation on your first offense. Either you have been warned before or you got the only officer that doesn’t give a break on the first offense for this violation. The only other reason you would not get a warning is if you were a total jerk to the officer.

how does BART keep track of

how does BART keep track of repeat offenders, if the offenders were only given a warning the first time.

I get the feeling that they

I get the feeling that they just pretend to, and that most of the time they don't bother giving tickets because they're too lazy to do the paperwork.

There are no excuses for discount ticket abuse. Anyone who abuses the system should be fined every time they're caught.

Lazy to do paperwork? Isn't

Lazy to do paperwork? Isn't this their job? Aren't they paid to catch these cheaters?

I think they're mostly paid

I think they're mostly paid to clear out bums and unruly passengers.

Dealing with fare evasion and system cheats really ought to be part of the job of the Station Agents considering how much they're paid.

Read the back of the ticket

Read the back of the ticket and note the restrictions. Pay the fine. Besides, using a fare ticket for the disabled when you are not is very bad karma.
