Contract Language

Anything that is underlined is what has been added, and anything that has been lined out has been removed.

Also posted is the "Me Too" agreement. It shows what non-represented employees are giving up.

A quick question, when this

A quick question, when this union voted on the 1st proposal the results of the vote were available the same day. In case of today's vote, the news link says, it will be available only next week. Was the first one just a hogwash?

Nope, the union is giving us

Our chapter bylaws require us

Our chapter bylaws require us to have 5 days to review the full language. So we can vote at the Marriot today, or down at the union hall on Friday and Monday.

This is a question I had

This is a question I had asked earlier, but no one replied. Why did u guys vote the last time, without reading the full language?

I can't speak for everyone

I can't speak for everyone but, the summary was enough for me. I saw the amount of take-aways and was happy to vote it down. Had there been more of a demand for actual language, then they may have put it out there. After they reach a tentative agreement, it is more likley to pass so they refine the language.

Thanks. That explains it. The

Thanks. That explains it. The Full disclosure is required only if the workers demand it.

Yesterday in the news, they

Yesterday in the news, they showed a few SEIU workers talking about the voting. Some voted yes and some no. Looks like its going to be a very close call. Its will be interesting to see what happens if this agreement gets voted down.

I keep hearing that first

I keep hearing that first there are some big minor issues that need to be discussed, whatever that means. Then I hear there are so many that don't trust the "projected" numbers that were never available for audit.
In other words I was told there are numbers they don't trust and would like language that IF the numbers end up not panning out then they can not be as affected and get some of the furlough days (or something) back.
But they don't believe BART will negotiate in good faith.
I have no idea what to make of it, except if the projected deficits don't pan out, then the employees should not suffer due to it. But I would put money on it that BART is not going to give anything even if the economy recovers big.
I think there should be language in the contract that says if bad (blank) happens, they lose (blank), if good happens they don't lose (blank).

It will be interesting to see if it passes, the media talks as if the deal is done. I am ready for things to be over.

How about some language in

How about some language in the contract that says "If the economy recovers, the fare hikes will be rolled back". The riders would love that, instead.

That won't happen.. Not sure

That won't happen.. Not sure if true or not, but I believe they raise fares every 2 years now, usually according to the CPI (needed or not) and this year was it. They changed it because in the 90's they hadn't raised the fare for many years and then had to do a big jump. There was public outcry. BART will always siphon the excess money to the capitol budget and expand if they don't use it for a raise (see previous non-contract years).

Anyway, with busses costing $2 to go down the street, and BART takes you usually 2-3 cities down for $1.75, You will never ever see BART roll back anything to the public or employees. They would expand (or spend the money somehow) towards the ends of the earth even if they had 10 Billion dollars. You will never see a rollback, and would have to be an idiot to think so.

PS BART did not have to raise fares, there was even free federal stimulus money available. Google it, I think it was a NY Times article that talked about other transit and how stubborn BART is about not taking it. (I believe it was due to the contracts, they can't show extra money when trying to bilk public or employees). But nobody cares about that, easier to hate the employees

The forecasted deficit was

The forecasted deficit was the main reason the fares went up and went up 6 months early. The contract negotiations also addressed that same deficit. If the economy improves, the riders should get back some of it if the workers benefit.

Congrats to SEIU for voting

Congrats to SEIU for voting Yes on the Contract. I hope the other Unions also do the right thing and get this over with. With the economy the way it is, strike is the last thing that should happen to bay-area.
