The SEIU 1021 Bart Chapter Bylaws state that the Full Contract Language has to be available to Union Members for a full Five Days before a Vote can be taken, It being Tuesday, IF we get the language today the Soonest a Vote could be taken would be Sunday. But our Union "Leadership" is pushing a Vote on Thursday anyway.

Until the employees have to pay for their share of PERS, the entire 7%, eliminate the 403B contribution, BART pays for just employee only medical, remove Cinco De Mayo and Lunar New Year as a holiday, get rid of night time differential and elimate beneficial past practices, this is a bad contract for the riders and taxpayers.

SEIU does not get Cinco De Mayo or Lunar New Years. Night time diferential is an industry standard. Why would I work nights for the same pay as dayshift? Like I said before I came to BART for the benefits. As a tech I could make a lot more money in the private sector. But I chose job security and benefits. When the economy is booming my choice sucks, but during times like these my choice seems golden. To stay on topic, for SEIU it was a good agreement, for ATU I think thier leadership let them down.
