Another freaking delay this AM

*sigh* its almost become comical now. I am planning my day on BART having delays. What is their issue? I'm about ready to start driving again.

yes, what the hell happened

yes, what the hell happened today? It was crazy today.

I got on at Dublin and we are the first to enter the train. First the sign said 9 car train, then it was a 6 or 7 car train. I ended standing all the way to Montgomery street. Wow

to answer your question....

to answer your question.... a part that costs $0.50 broke....................

for a "train ready"

for a "train ready" condition, that being all safety circuits showing clear and the train can move, many things must be set/ready: doors closed, mode selected, all electrical trainline signals from the front to back of the train (and then back to the front) showing good. Final step is to push the "Ready Reset." This reset would not work.

In the control cab, there are three red emergency stop buttons; these have control of what is called the EM relay. depress a stop button, the em relay drops and the train stops; if a door opens, same thing. It is possible, sometimes, to bypass this to get a train moving, but at the next station the train MUST be taken out of service because the safety circuits are being bypassed. For reasons unknown, it was not possible to perform this task.

So, how does the train move, then? it must be 'hostled' from car number two in the train, and that is limited to 5 mph. And that takes a l.o.n.g time to get the train through the transbay tube.

as an aside to all this, it may beworth noting that every bart car has four traction motors (one per axle) rated at 150 hp. the older cars' motors are DC, and the newly rehab'd ones are AC drive. At 600 horsepower per car * 8 car train, that's drawing a huge amount of power. and yes, the third rail is 1000 VDC.

don't even think about pissing on the third rail. It will hurt.
