Unacceptable
Maybe its being in such unusually close proximity to strangers, maybe its that I am either tired because it is early or tired from the day, maybe it's the air in the transbay tunnel... but I cannot believe how completely unacceptable some people's behavior on BART is. Like where do you live, and what happened to you as a child???
Examples:
-The guy sitting in a seat, cutting his own hair with clippers. I wanted to pee all over him. I mean he's leaving his body waste all over, why not see what it's like for everyonwe else?
-The lady who talks about INCREDIBLY personal issues very loudly on a cell phone. I don't want to know that your aunt is having complications with her diabetes, or that your sister just had her kids taken away by child protective services... and you are at the OTHER END of the car I am on. Psycho.
-The lady who begs for $10 to get to the hospital for some tests, and loudly provides a running tally on how much she has gotten so far. "I need 9 more dollars people!! OK I need 8 more dollars!! I have 2 dollars and I need 8 more!!" ARRRGGGHH!
-The kids who incoherently sell candy and then harass you when you ignore them. You're doing your thing, I am doing mine. I don't often tell 13 year old kids to fuck off, but I have more than once to them.
-The guy who takes off his shoes, puts his feet up on the seat, and tells ME to cover my mouth when coughing. I DID, SHITHEAD.
-The clearly high school age kids who treat the train like a jungle gym. What the fuck are you on, and where can I get some? Or did you really fail to learn at age 6 or so that you are not a toddler and behaving like one is ridiculous?
-The guy with tweezers picking imaginary scabs (his skin) off, bleeding all over. Ok you are just crazy, but please stay behind whatever dumpster you live in and off the train.

You are so right. I'm very hesitant to even sit down when I ride the train, even though the cars are cleaned every night. I'd hate to see the results if they ever took a sample of seat and did some of those tests to determine the types/amount of germs on them. This is a very good argument for those plastic seats like MUNI has. Yes, they are less comfortable but they can be wiped down every night.

Why doesn't someone make up
Why doesn't someone make up a list of "BART" rules and etiquitte then? A general guideline to BART riding. I'm interested to see what folks come up with.

Do you really think BART needs a list of rules and etiquitte? What ever happened to common sense and manners? Aren't these supposed to be taught at home? Aren't young men taught by their fathers to give up their seats to ladies? Oh, wait....Women's Liberation changed all that. Equal is Equal.
BART has posted "suggestions" from time to time, but they are usually ignored. A recent campaign: "Please stand to the right when boarding and exiting the train" At times, I would actually see people attempting to abide by that suggestion. But, others who don't read would just plow into the middle with the ME FIRST mentality. Sometimes a little peer pressure helps, a little public humiliation - but in today's world when one never knows if one is dealing with a nut case/time bomb who might be armed, one keeps one's mouth shut and eyes cast downward.

Granted that 98% of your everyday commuter are decent folks, but even a well dressed seemingly intelligent person will have a bad day. Yes, I'm one of those overpaid despies Agents. I've seen it all, from crack smokers in the bathrooms, hookers turning tricks on the train and bathrooms,grown women peeing in the stairwells, and of course the few that have decided to end their lives on the Bart tracks. And then the commuters have the nerve to cuss me out cuz their train is late while the body is still warm while the police/ambulance/coroner are all running red lights to the scene of the "accident". BTW for those inquiring minds, I only take home about $2500 a month after taxes and misc. deductions, hardly breaking the bank. And I have a degree from CAL, with fluency in four different languages.

What the agent was trying to convey was that although he makes decent salary, he is not rolling in the dough like people think. 2500 a month equates to roughly 30 thousand a year, which somewhere else would be a decent take-home, but here in the mega-overpriced bay area, that's not a lot of money.
Instead of calling others asshats, especially others that are in a better situation than you are, sounds like you need to re-direct some of that energy into finding a new job.

Boy I agree with you. I've been there with the hospital lady, the CPS cell phone conversation and that stupid crackhead woman has the nerve to ask if CPS is potty training her kid. I was so stressed out by the time I got to work.
I thought I had heard it all until I listened to some of these Black kids who must go to a private school out in Walnut Creek; just gross. Even a Black woman got up and told them to shut up. I thought I was going to throw up. These kids should be in jail or caged or something. They are disgusting.

This is why I listen to headphones on BART. I tried reading for a few days, and when I overheard all the bullshit conversations and ignorance surrounding me, I'd get to work furious. That's no way to start your day. I went right back to headphones, and now the only people who piss me off are the ones pushing past me. I ignore the rest.
