I am appalled at the LIES and BULLSHIT that came out of Linton Johnson's mouth on a segment aired by KRON 4 this evening. If the normal employee gets an average of 78,000 a year then that means they owe me 18,000 bucks!!! Hell why strike! That's money in the bank! I wish that BART management would have their real books audited by the state. Instead of using the public's monies to live in their Blackhawk homes and drive their fancy cars they in fact would be working for us the taxpayers as inmates in prison! I also learned that KRON 4 interviewed ATU Union President Jess Hunt. I also know it was a 30 minute interview dealing with facts and the workers side of the story Guess what? FUCKING KRON 4 DID NOT USE A SINGLE QUOTE OR EXPLAINATION! Hey KRON 4 you can KISS MY VIEWING ASS GOODBYE and I hope the everyone tunes out your misleading, non professional, and one sided views of the working public! Yeah I know news makes money and you will only print what people will listen to---just like the NATIONAL ENQUIRER and as we all know, both newspapers deal with only the truth.

These hard times hit everyone, but our bosses don't realize or care that those that would suffer most from a strike are the lower income/immigrant/single parent/two jobaday riders that really rely on the trains to get to work/school. Its a public transportation system and very much needed by everybody. it is a travesty that BART does this every 4 yrs to the public they are mandated to serve. Believe me, we are not becoming wealthy over the years, I still live in the same house and drive my same truck to work each day. My wife works full time as well. Our upper level bosses seem to be so insulated from all of us. The fiscally disastrous decisions they make never seem to have any real consequences on themselves. Maybe they should hire some consultants to teach them all about real life outside of a thousand dollar suit.

T/O's (train operators) and Bart employess has the same Job that I do everyday working for a charter company driving MCI's or Prevost Coaches but I make much LESS than they do. I put myself into danger everyday having to maneuver a 45ft vehicle down the the highway ditching and dodging insane motorist with crappy benifets and NO such thing as OVERTIME PAY RIDICULOUS!! I'm subject to many diseases first hand and T/O's are shielded from the public in the private Cab pressing BUTTONS ALl Day or Yard Work.... How Dare YOU. I'm MORE Likely to die first from a Bus Accident then a Computerized Head on Train CRASH, GET REAL! I know many train Operators that brag alot about how much money they make DOING NOTHING! I think TRAIN OPERATORS ARE WELL OVERPAID LET THEM GO ON STRIKE AND EMPLOY PEOPLE THAT WILL APPRECIATE THE WAGES THEIR MAKING NOW............ I'M PRETTY SURE YOU WILL FIND ALOT OF WILLING APPLICANTS THAT WOULD APPLY FOR YOUR POSTION!

How many passengers are you
How many passengers are you responsible for? I carry over 2,000 passengers on a commute train. How long and intense was the training for learning to drive a bus? 15 weeks for a Train Operator and an almost 50% wash out rate. Pressing buttons? That's all I do? HOW DARE YOU?! You have not the slightest idea what my job is! And you never will because I doubt you could pass the testing to even get hired....
You're right -- there are a lot of willing applicants that apply for the job. They stay on waiting lists for years. And then half don't make it through the rigorous training. Anyone would enjoy a job with good pay and benefits, but believe me, I earn it all!

Who cares. you'll be back on the train once those toll and parking fees start eating at your pockets. Who are you to tell BART employees what their work is worth??? You believe everything you read. BART benefits are designed and implemented by CALPERs and the benefits are no different than any other county or state employee.

Just how automated do you think the system is? There are failures in every system at some point. When that occurs patrons will require the services of operators, engineers, agents and others in order to keep all the trains moving. There is more that goes on that some are led to believe.
When people complain about
When people complain about BART employees with "automated" jobs they are specifically referring to station agents, train operators, and train cleaners.
Public outrage is centered on station agents, train operators, and train cleaners.
And I agree with you that more funds should be allocated to maintenance and repair.
It seems ridiculous that people blame the mechanics & engineers for train problems, when it is clearly a lack of parts & funding that keep the trains in bad condition and not the work of the mechanics & engineers.

I think our mechanics and engineers who keep the trains running are doing a very good job, all things considered. Sure there are times we loose a 10-car train due to some undercar issue or other problem. I would say there are more wayside problems with the train control equipment on a daily basis than the trains. Yet, this is something the public rarely sees unless it is a major problem. For example the Hayward Yard fire that knocked out service. Just as the trains are aging, the train control equipment is pieced together with technology spanning about 30 years. It would be great if the automated system was truly automatic and reliable, but that is just not the case.
