Delay on Pittsburg/Baypoint line today, 6/29/06
In case anyone is traveling out past Pleasant Hill this afternoon, they're stopping the trains at PH and turning them around. They're busing people past PH onto Pittsburg/Baypoint. I just read this on the news. There was an incident on the tracks but they're not saying what it was.

not too sure what exactly
not too sure what exactly happened, but a train at C 55 was going through in Road Manual (25 mph), and either split the switch or the switch was out of correspondence and the train went from one track to the other (C2 to the C1 or vice versa) when it was not cleared to do so.
Unknown whether central knew the state of the switch, but given that the TO was moving the train in Road Manual and not in ATO, he's screwed.
At 2:30 pm the train was removed from the area, and at 3:01 normal service was restored.
Buddy, you must be a TO. You
Buddy, you must be a TO. You need to translate that so everyone can understand. And yes, that operator is in trouble but he won't be fired.
Too much information.
Too much information.
Civilians have no clue what C55 and C1 and C2, switch correspondence, and road manual are, nor do they need to know all of that, so I'll rephrase in simpler terms.
A train damaged a section of trackway. In it's damaged condition, the track was a derailment waiting to happen and was extremely unsafe. That whole section of trackway was shut down for repair, and was not re-opened until repairs were completed.
Yeah, last thing you want to
Yeah, last thing you want to do is for us dumb bastards to be able to figure out how unsafe the trains are!!
If you really do think that
If you really do think that they are that unsafe, then why do you chose to ride them?
The freeways are even less
The freeways are even less safe; that's why.
I can see your concern, but
I can see your concern, but your still choosing to ride something that you feel is so unsafe (there is no way I would).
I commuted (in all times mind you) for the last 10 years on the road and never once gotten into an accident / I know that sometimes if fate gets you into a crash your going to crash. But at least on the road you have more control over your path then on Bart.
I like Bart, I think it's fine. It has issues , but it's a public transport, It's going to have issues. I ride it for one reason and one reason only, Its saving me money. Once if fails to do so or I start to feel the same way that you do I will make the choice not to use it.
I'm not too sure what
I'm not too sure what happened, either, but for safety's sake, central shut down a section, and inspected it. I'm not sure if a train went over a bad section, or broke a good section (doesn't sound like it). That whole section between Concord Yard and Concord station is pretty bouncy, which means that the ground has subsided and the rails are uneven.
BART has been broke since 9-11, but recently has gotten more money, and the track crews have been out fixing bad stuff. Go out and look just north of Daly City and there is a long piece of new rail, waiting to be installed. It's sitting between the running rail, and the third rail, for the track next to the highway (west side). It will be installed soon.
