El Cerrito Del Norte parking doesn't require validation?

I used to ride from El Cerrito Del Norte and they have a parking structure. Back about 2 years ago, all they needed was to validate that you are a riding customer. So they had these machines that you could validate. I messed up one time by probably entering the wrong stall number and I ended up with a parking ticket.
Anyway, today I rode that station for the first time in over a year and OMG, they got rid of those pesky validation machines. They didn't charge to park and they didn't need to validate. Is this for real? Anyone who parks at El Cerrito Del Norte please shed some light on this for me? Thanks. I'm amazed if Bart really did this because normally nothing ever goes towards conveniencing the rider...not normally.

Yes, this is true. I live
Yes, this is true. I live in Pinole and drive to the Del Norte station to take BART into the City M-F. For the time being, there are no validation machines. Just get to the parking structure before 7:50 a.m. or so most weekdays or you are out of luck getting a space.
i think they stopped doing
i think they stopped doing that three or four years ago.
Those machines were
Those machines were developed by an independent contractor and their useful life had come to an end. Parts for the machines were old and I believe the person who developed them and BART had no desire to rebuild them. The machines were notorious for breaking down.
Eventually, all of the "ADD FARE" machines will have software upgrades to include validation features. You can expect that at some point in the future, all stations will require a fee and validation.
