Does BART REALLY save that much money by taking a car or several out? To make the passengers be herded like cattle and squished? It just leads to more frustration.

Maybe the Train operators get
Maybe the Train operators get paid by the number of cars in a train. Smaller the train, the less they get paid. So BART saves big $$$$. :)
Yes, you take 1 car off each
Yes, you take 1 car off each train that adds up fast savings.. They scale the trains according to the number of people when it goes through the busiest areas.
When a train hits Oakland or the tube, you want that train close to capacity or you waste money.
This morning a "10 Car
This morning a "10 Car Fremont Train" pulled up to Downtown Berkeley and it only had 3 cars on it.
Because it was so short and it had to pull all the way up to where it would be if it was 10 cars long, it took three times as long at every stop as people at the end got confused and then all ran up to the train and tried to cram into the last car.
