Prongs or Fingers Extending out of Car 2539x?

Basel's picture

Hi T/0's - perhaps you can answer this one. Car 2539X has perhaps 4 or 5 "fingers" or rather semi-pointed flat blades sticking out of the left side of the cab. This was a mid-consist car and the rest of the train didn't have this "feature." What gives? Something to catch inter-office mail? Sorry I didn't have time to take a photo. BTW - these fingers or prongs run parallel to the track (pointing forward).

It's a new safety feature

It's a new safety feature that they're piloting. I don't know much more than that.

Ooh maybe they stick out over

Ooh maybe they stick out over the yellow dots and knock over anyone who's standing too close to the train! Hooray for safety!

I don't know if this is the same thing, but there's a Component Eval for barriers to keep patrons from falling between the cars while boarding. How someone would fall between cars is beyond me tho.

That sounds like them. I caught sight of them last Friday evening on a Pittburg/Bay Point train at Balboa Park. I'm guesstimating they're a foot off the platform level and they stick out flush with the car. If two cars had them installed, it looks to be enough to prevent anyone from accidentally falling into the gap between the joined cars.
