BART to San Jose/Santa Clara Measure B

icrew's picture

There's an interesting discussion of the BART to San Jose project and the impact that Measure B will have on that effort on the Mercury News site today.

Unfortunately, I moved out of Santa Clara County a few months ago, so I won't get to vote for it, but I really hope that the voters down there see the value and sense in this proposal and approve it. As a "special tax" it requires a 2/3rds vote, so it will be a high hurdle, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Measure B passed with 66.78%

Measure B passed with 66.78% approval, .11% above the 2/3 requirement. The Santa Clara VTA says construction will begin 2010 and revenue service will start in 2018.

since they are building

since they are building multiple stations on the way to San Jose, you would assume they will open them in sequence like they have done to every other extension.

So does "Service begins" refer to the San Jose station or to the first of the new stations on the San Jose line?

Service begins refers to all

Service begins refers to all six planned stations on the line. If the measure failed there was talk about building the extension right up to before the portal to the downtown subway segment, to finish at a later time. However, since Measure B passed, this is no longer the case.

In case you haven't seen the proposed alignment, check it out.
