Nomination for Next Train to be Rehabbed
To any BART personnel who may be reading this: I hereby nominate car 2561 for a makeover. I got on, as usual, to the last car in a 10-car Millbrae train at 6:16am at del Norte. What greeted me inside 2561 was brutal. The carpet was not just stained; it had black spots everywhere. The seats were so worn they were brown in the middle, and frayed on the edges. Even the armrests were wearing off. It smelled like dirty socks. And, as an added insult, it seemed that 2561 was so bad that no attempt was any longer being made to clean it; there were crumbs and other debris all over the floor.
Now, I understand I am riding a public transportation system and that the public is, well, sometimes gross. But most of the ills plaguing 2561 seem to result in it being a forgotten bastard stepchild car added to a 9-car train as an afterthought rather than, for instance, my favorite BART patron spilling coffee all over the place (sorry I don't know how to link to the post I wrote a few months ago about the girl who gets on at Berkeley with a ginormous latte and danish every day).
Please, BART, 2561 needs you.

I feel your pain. I myself
I feel your pain. I myself have experienced car 2561 (a C car) and it has been disgusting for awhile.
Fortunately, it seems that Bart is rehabbing many of the C cars, as you might notice as C cars are usually in the direct center and ends of trains. I guess the good news is that since you are riding a Richmond-Millbrae train, there aren't too many C cars leading/trailing the full-length trains during rush hours, lessening the chance of you seeing car 2561 again. The A cars that typically lead and end cars for trains from Richmond aren't too bad (yet).
Are any A-cars being
Are any A-cars being overhauled? I've seen a bunch of C-cars and a few B-cars, but thus far the only A-car I've seen has been not really overhauled, but they just installed that disgusting blue tile floor; and the seats are filthy and worn.

Pitty there is no way to track a particular car on BART, I would adjust the time I traveled 15 or 20 minutes if I knew I could avoid a sh*thole car.
I was on car 2565 this
I was on car 2565 this evening and it was disgusting as well -- carpet had large black spots, the seats looked worn and grey and stained and the car smelled dank and musty (ew!), but it did have hand straps for those standing. I was immediately reminded of this article. Must be about the same vintage and suffered the same level of upkeep. It was the lead car in the Fremont to Richmond train (well, I think it was .. I never know which Richmond line train I am really catching when I take the PBP train to 12th Street and hope upon hope there is a timed transfer awaiting me on the other side of the platform. Very often I swear I end up getting on the Milbrae to Richmond that I would have boarded at Montgomery had I waited). Plus there were a couple of teenagers using the hand rails like a jungle gym .. sigh.

We should start an "adopt a BART car" club and flood BART with petitions to rehab particular cars :-P
