There is a major delay between Lake Merritt and Bay Fair in both directions due to an equipment problem on the track.

I hear they are only using 1 side of the track somewhere...

BART service was experiencing a "major delay" in the East Bay on Thursday morning because of a cracked rail near the Lake Merritt station, a BART spokesman said.

Trains were being diverted to a single track to avoid the damaged section of rail, which is located in the underground "Y" section beneath downtown Oakland where several BART lines intersect, according to BART spokesman Linton Johnson.

Passengers were being directed to transfer at the West Oakland station and at the Oakland City Center 12th St. station to trains on the opposite platform, in order to continue their journey.

Trains on the Dublin line were being turned around at Bayfair station, and passengers were being instructed to transfer there to other trains.

Delays throughout the system were estimated at up to 30 minutes, Johnson said.

It was not immediately known what caused the cracked rail, how long it would take to repair or how long the service disruption would last.

Apparently this is "big news" for a Thursday. At least four camera crews at Lake Merrit station. Service seems to have been restored around 11:15am.

Is this going to be like the fire at Hayward station, only 243 times worse?

It seems I've just escaped from going crazy on BART, as there was the possibility I'd be summoned for jury duty today. I'm not looking forward to when I begin commuting for work again...
