Kids on BART

Ok, so maybe it's me, but I have kids and it still amazes me how some parents simply allow their kids to run up and down the damn aisle on the train. Sure the cars is kinda empty right now, but I still think it shows how some people allow their kids to do whatever in the hell looks fun. Teach them about restraint and how to sit the hell down and be still. But of course when everbody's kid is on some drug for ADHD or diagnosed as being Autistic I guess I can't expect anything less than running up and down the damn aisle right now.

I posted this before on the site, but I guess it can bear repeating. I once was riding the PBP line from 12th Street Oakland/City Center to Pleasant Hill and there were these toddlers on the train. Shortly after we departed Rockridge, the smaller of the two kids does "business" in his diaper. So I move to the next car. The mother gives me a glare as to say, "How dare you move because he went bathroom." And the worst part was they didn't get off until Walnut Creek! If that was me, I'd have gotten off at Orinda and use the station bathroom there.

I've done diaper changes in the station restrooms, and let me ask you this question. Would you want to lay down on the floor in the station restroom? Would you want to sit down in the station restroom? Ever try to keep the older kid from touching things while you're changing the diaper of the other?

Last time I checked, there are no baby changing tables in the BART restrooms. Thankfully the few times I've had to change a diaper in a BART station, I've been able to do the diaper change in the stroller. The nastiness of BART restrooms is appalling.

The nastiness of changing

The nastiness of changing diapers on the trains and leaving them there for System Service to pick up is even more appalling. And it's happened before.

There's no excuse for that.

There's no excuse for that. Of course, these are the same fine-quality parents who's children will grow up to run up and down the aisle of the train, then blast their iPods and sit in the disabled seats as teens, and then grow up to raise a whole new generation of ne'er do wells.... Thus the cycle continues.

That is pretty nasty, and it

That is pretty nasty, and it doesn't surprise me that it's happened before.

I see changing diapers on

I see changing diapers on trains quite often as well; SO GROSS! They also leave their dam diapers all over the parking lot too but leaving them on the train for others to pick up is just unbelievable. YUCK. THAT should be a TRIPLE fine.

If I had to deal with such a emergency (that could not wait) I would most likely move the far far end of the station platform and deal with it 20 to 30 feet from anyone's eye or nose (assuming non commute hours)

Also any prepared parent not only carries spare diapers but many double ziploc bags for said used items (or leaky bottles)

That's just bad parenting.

That's just bad parenting. It is hard to blame the kids, kids are only going to do as much as they are allowed to. My kids understand the rules: your butt stays in the seat. Running around in a moving train is a recipe for some serious boo-boo's.

The apple never falls far from the tree. Usually the most annoying and obnoxious kids are the ones who have the annoying obnoxious parent in tow shouting into their phone like a ship-to-shore phonecall or believing their child can do no wrong and their scat don't stink.

One night I was on a three-car towards Fremont, and the first two cars were absolutely packed. When I got in the third car half of it was full of kids with harmonicas. Worst ride ever.
