I think that would be a great

I think that would be a great idea! Someone recently figured out how many lines there are in the destination signs. I don't remember if that was you. Will all that information fit using a big enough font?

A lot of passengers have asked me why BART trains are not painted accordingly. I have always told passengers that BART has to shuffle trains around quite frequently to keep such a high "on time" schedule so coloring the trains would make the shuffling even more difficult.

To piggyback off your idea, I wonder if the new destination signs could change colors according to the destination. For example, the S.F. Airport-Pitsburg/Bay Point line trains would be displayed in Yellow and Fremont/Daly City line trains would be green. I think the new L.E.D. technology can do that????

Hopefully some of BART's engineers are BARTRAGERS and run with some of the great ideas posted here.

I think the LED signage on WMATA's 3/4/5/6000 series trains are great. I know there are a lot of people who don't like to refer to the lines by color, but I don't remember why.

I think what's really missing that baffles me everytime is the System Map not explaining that the Richmond-Millbrae and Fremont-Daly City trains do not run evenings and Sundays. Yes, the instructions are on the electronic display to transfer at MacArthur or 12th St, but not everybody reads that information for the few seconds that it flashes up there. Compare the WMATA map and notice how clear it denotes the Yellow Line does not operate between Fort Totten and Mt. Vernon during rush hours.

during the brief 2nd generation of electronic signage (CRTs only deployed in limited high captive eye stations) train arrivals included a color stripe. While color designations work in systems with few routes, numbers or letters work well.

There should be a line

There should be a line designation indicator light like what WMATA MetroRail uses on the destination displays used on their rehabbed Breda 2000 and 3000 series as well as the CAF 5000 series and Alstom 6000 series cars.

I agree with Officer Jo-Jo

I agree with Officer Jo-Jo about the L.E.D.s on the destination displays that change color according to their destination.
Those are known as full color destination displays.

Color examples:
Bright Blue for Dublin/Pleasanton-Daly City-Millbrae Blue Line Trains

Yellow for the Pittsburg/Bay Point-SF Airport Yellow Line Trains

Bright Green for the Fremont-Daly City Green Line Trains

Orange for Fremont-Richmond Orange Line Trains

Red for Richmond-Daly City-Millbrae Red Line Trains
