One Brokedown, Busted Ass System
Ok, I haven't been on BARTs' ass (as if it were a person) in some time, but as I sit on these filthy, stinking of body odor trains, I am saying "BART really needs to be ashamed of itself". How in the hell did BART win those Transit Agency Awards they were touting a few years back? Man, other systems must be really jacked, or someone was wearing blinders when they reviewed BART. This isn't 1978 anymore, and California is falling further behind as we greedily concern ourselves with materialistic bullshit instead of investing in our infrastructure (schools, roads, mass, public transit). Instead we have spent the last 30 years screwing around with a few advances here and there, but BART is seriously in the last century at thhis point, with a bunch of misguided retards thinking riders give a shit about a damn cup of coffee from friggin Peete's (who in hell drinks Peete's?) versus clean, fast, on-time, modern trains.

I couldn't agree more. There have been some SERIOUS screw ups during the lifetime of Bart.
Visit any other comparable city, and see how far far far far behind we are with technology, service, price, everything.
By now we should have had more track, more trains, newer trains(3rd doors etc), an automated system(no t/o) (doors on platforms to trains), post 1970s display signs....
We live with so much cutting edge tech, why is our transit system so poor?

BART is far far behind what city's transit system? I'm not saying it's not, but I am really curious to know which MAJOR U.S. rail transit system you feel is leaving BART in the stone age.
#2. An automated system with no operators huh. That's the funniest thing I've read in here in a few days. Every major rail system has operators. Wether it's DC Metro, NYC Transit, Chicago, MARTA in Atlanta, or even high-tech, cutting edge, Tokyo, Japan. There's not ONE that has completely automated trains, and there never will be in the forseeable future. A 10 car train packed with 2000 people rolling along at 60+ MPH with no operator. Yeah. That's a comforting thought.
Besides. A train with no operator will be cool the next time a train derails, catches fire, has a locked axle, can't move for whatever reason, breaks down in the middle of commute, runs over someone in the trackway, or decides to run through a station without stopping.
About the only two driverless
About the only two driverless systems are London's Docklands Light Railway (which is not 80 mph) and the shuttle in NYC, which actually has operators, only they are in a booth, not on the trains.
I have rode on a lot of
I have rode on a lot of public transit.. I would not want to be on BART or any other transportation for that matter without employees or police around, goes for the stations AND any Vehicles they have..
I have seen things happen that would have been so much worse without someone there..

Vancouver, BC's "SKYTRAIN" system is FULLY AUTOMATED. Three lines, over 200,000 daily riders, NO OPERATORS!!
Skytrain is basically a
Skytrain is basically a glorfied people mover (think airtrain at SFO). Skytrain also has attendants on board who monitor the train, make announcements, and will operate if necissary. So even though Skytrain is automated, it still has a human being on board for safety reasons.
The number of serious
The number of serious incidents on BART is very small compared to most other transit systems. I don't recall a single passenger ever being killed by a BART screw up (excluding suicides, obviously).
An automated system would be frightening. What would happen during an emergency? Who would stop the train on an automated system if, for example, a car flipped onto the tracks, which has happened between Castro Valley and Dublin.
In terms of more track, BART is kind of stuck. It would cost billions, if not trillions, to expand the number of tracks in the core system.
BART pricing is fairly cheap compared to most other intercity rail systems. People compare BART to a city subway system, but that is not a fair comparison. It's more of a commuter rail system, like NJ Transit or Long Island Railroad. NJ Transit costs $10 each way to go the equivalent of Concord to S.F.

You people get side-tracked faster than a BART car's automated voice starts hollering "the door on this car has been obstructed", even when they often are not.
BART originally was supposed to be a fully automated system (i.e., no train operators), but they realized it would not work because the system was too unreliable, with trains stopping in the wrong place and doors opening in dangerous locations. So, whether a train has an operator or not isn't the issue.
My blog was about the sorry state that BART has fallen in, and how management seems to be over-extending the system and doing things that are not part of what BART's mission is or should not be.

infrastructure for those who pay the bills is a low priority for your elected officials.

If you don't like how something is, then vote and open your checkbook... People have most of the power, but here in Liberal California Special Interest groups have learned how to sway a lot of people.. We all pay for a lot of lazy people, and a lot of folks that may not pay taxes and then send any of their Dollars to other countries away from Americans. Keep money local, spend money in your town..
I also agree BART is no different than the rest of our State and Nation.. Everything lately has the perception of poor quality and getting more expensive. Our Dollar is worth so much less now..

You failed to mention Vancouver BC's "SKYTRAIN" system. It opened in 1986. Currently, has three lines. They are in the process of building two additional lines. Daily ridership is over 200,000 and YES, IT IS FULLY AUTOMATED. NO OPERATORS !!

Do your research first. Skytrain does have operators. They're called Sky Train Attendants (STA's).
They are on board the trains, they make announcements, monitor and troubleshoot the train, assist in emergencies, and operate the train if necissary.

I've lived in Vancouver for 16 years. Moved here in 2002. Yes, Skytrain has Attendants. However, the Attendants also act as Station Agents and Security. They are located throughout the system. They are NOT on every train. Also, they do NOT make announcements. The trains have automated announcements. Central Control makes service interuption, emergency, etc. announcements. As for it being called a "glorifed" people mover, well, moving over 200,000 passengers a day isn't too bad for a people mover. And, when the Canada Line opens next year to Vancouver Int'l Airport, they will surpass 300,000 a day. Not too bad for a "people mover" !
