I agree 1000% Most T/O's make it sound like you're in the nosebleed seats at an old stadium packed with 70,000 fans. "Ahhhhhh folks it oiejrhwr station, now arriving alejoe (incomprehensible) station.

Isn't this covered in their probationary training? Should it be? Does bart do QA checks?
BART does do QA checks. In
BART does do QA checks. In fact, the position of QA Auditor is a full-time one! And there's even a whole QA department! That is one thing that the QA personnel look for - are announcements being made, and if so, are they clear and proper?
Look for the QA folks - most are middle-aged white women carrying clip boards and walking around with a BART ID around their neck.

I don't think its equipment because he would start off talking okay and like at the end seems like he ran out pf breath to finish what he's announcing and just mumbles the rest...lots of t/o do it.

Do you get on the intercom to let the T/O know you can't understand or hear him/her? Sometimes the external noise from the train is so loud on a car that it drowns out the announcements. Sometimes the conversation and other noise on the train is so loud, you can't hear announcements. Sometimes the PA equipment needs adjusting. And it's true that some T/O's mumble. At least you are listening. I pity the fools who sit plugged in to their mp3 players oblivious to the world. A catastrophe could be underway and they'd be sitting on a train clueless.

personally, i think it is the operator, not the equipment/external noises that leads to mumbled messages. there are two female and one male operator that i can regularly hear loud and clear, even through my headphones. i seriously doubt they just have better PA systems every shift and that they have the ability to emit a noise cancelling hum from one side of their mouth while simultaneously announcing the next stop through the other side.

That which you do not know cannot hurt you... ;)
