train missed platform/forgot to stop
the pittsburg train overshot the montgomerey street platform tonight by 2 full cars. after a wait of several minutes, the train left the station without ever opening the doors. how is it possible for this to happen? if the train is on manual overide, then this would be one bad driver? it should not be possible if the train is on automatic.
this is twice in one week that I have been shut out of the trains, last thursday too full, doors closed on riders and tonight the doors did not open.

should not be possible, but
should not be possible, but it is. Called a program stop failure. A quick operator can sometimes catch it and stop the train with only a car out, or just a door.
If more than 1 car is out, central will tell them to keep going, rather than cause a delay.
If it's downtown, it's no
If it's downtown, it's no big deal to just keep going and have the passengers backtrack from the next station. With trains two minutes apart, taking the time to lock out the doors of two cars eats up too much time.
If a train is going 36 mph, it's pretty easy for the TO to get a feel if it will overshoot. But if it is 27 or 18 (pretty common downtown), the feel is different, and missing a program stop failure is pretty common at Powell and Montgomery.
Central can send extra releases for a train, and sometimes, they stay "stored" in the station controls, and "bite" the next train. Consequently, TO's try to know who is in front of them, and listen if they ask for a release.
TO's can get permission to program runthru's, if the release doesn't get through. Sometimes these runthru's last until the next station, and surprise the TO. If the stations are far enough apart, it's possible to kill the runthru, but not downtown. Announcements, etc., take up all the time, so the TO usually doesn't have any time to clear out any runthrus.
What's up with BART lately?
What's up with BART lately? The cars I've had to ride home in at night are so disgusting, I can't sit down. Ride in has been fine except for whale woman smoking on the platform at North Concord. She didn't look as drugged out this week. You can see all her cigarette butts at the 9th car entrance. Noticed she was hiding her ciggie from the T.O., so maybe someone did talk to her because I didn't see her taco bell litter. She must weigh 400 pounds.
Last night, I thought I smelled BARF too when I boarded the 12:09 at Montgomery. Turned out to be some couple's gross pizza that they were chowing down on the train. There must have been a concert last night because everyone in my corner which is right outside the T.O. was eating and looked like they hadn't showered in two weeks. The seats were just disgusting and were that older color of blue. Every single one of them was so soiled from head to toe, it was depressing. The car had a BLUE floor but the front of the car (it was a lead car) was peeling off on the outside and the car swayed from side to side all the way home. I thought we were going to derail a couple of times. I thought I spend $10.30 a day commuting, why can't I have a seat that doesn't look like I could catch a terminal disease if I sit on it after working all night not to mention not feeling like a dog locked in a hot car. From now on, I will be bringing paper bags like I saw some other woman doing because it was THAT BAD coupled with zero air-conditioning.
Those of you parking in the far lot at North Concord, do not leave your car there all night and be careful during the day to not leave anything in your car. Last week, I saw a male and female backing in and out of parking spots. At first, I just thought they wanted a shady spot to park because it was hot but after they did that over 15 times, I decided they are checking out cars to break into or else looking for a better place to do their drugs. Then, after doing that in the far lot, they drove up to the middle lot and were driving around there. The car was a silver hatchback sedan of some type. Next time, I'll get the license number and report them whether I'm being paranoid or not. Female was A-A, male was either A-A or Latino. He was slumped down in the passsenger seat. Noticed one vehicle that was left there late at night was broken into judging from the window glass all over the lot the next day. I hope BART nabs the guy that's doing the late night break-ins. It is always worse in hot weather. It also makes me uncomfortable when I see people hanging out in the far lot when I'm parking for work. I'm always happy when Tri-Valley is there training because I feel like they keep the thieves away.
I know that car you're
I know that car you're talking about; I believe it's a C1 type car. I remember thinking to myself of why Bart would add in a new floor without bothering to change the seat covers , fix the AC, or at least try to make the exterior look a bit better. In fact, all of the C1 cars look rather worn inside, but especially out with peeling paint and all.
I was on that train and I
I was on that train and I thought the T/O was in road manual and overshot the Montgomery platform by a hair. The train had problems leaving Civic Center and Powell. It took a while for the train to move after the doors closed at both stations and it felt like road manual out of Powell.
I, too, am familiar with
I, too, am familiar with this "A" car. It's seats are disgusting! I am also appalled at the new floor and the saggy, dirty, faded seats. I haven't studied the outside of the car well, but I take your word that its appearance is less than stellar.
C'mon BART... we can do better than this.
I think I even have some pictures of the car's interior somewhere.
Anyone know what cars are slated for overhaul? Thus far, it's only been C2-type cars that have been overdone. I'm diggin' the new composite (sprayed on) flooring. It's better than the new synthetic tile and worlds above the carpet. The car in question is the only car that I know of with the blue synthetic tile flooring.

This happened on a pitts / baypoint train going into pleasant hill. The operator gets on the horn and says "I told it to stop but it didnt stop". Everyone getting off was pissed because they had to go to the next station.
"I told it to stop but it didnt stop" doesn't exactly inspire confidence does it. I think they should replace train operators with trained chimps. You can train them buy putting a peanut on the go lever and a bannana on the stop lever and make them wear an electric shock collar if they do something wrong. I would guarantee the service to be exactly the same and we could cut the cost of a bart ticket in half.
