cell phone ban on commuter trains in other countries

boopiejones's picture

this is an interesting idea. the article makes it sound like it isn't really regulated and doesn't work either. but it sounds interesting. here's a link: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/04/17/international/i094345D88.DTL&tsp=1

another thing i'd like to propose is no playing videogames without headsets! don't those things come with headsets when you buy them? what would possess someone to play without the headset and subject a train full of people to the "pows" "crashes" and "shizams" every time you shoot an alien? it is bad enough that we have to listen to your incessant clicking on the buttons, but the sound effects too?

How about a ban on people

How about a ban on people who blast their music through their headphones? Sure, they are keeping the music to "themselves" with their headphones, but fellow Bart commuters shouldn't have to be forced to listen to whatever they're listening to as well. Music leaking through heaphones is like a mini-version of Bart's very own Queen Latifah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiBHLkTlMsA

To me, hearing the "sh*t" and repeated "f^&k" in rap music on a morning commute is much worse and much more disturbing than hearing the "shizams" of an alien exploding.

Last night we had one of

Last night we had one of those on the Richmond train, playing his music with the volume turned up to the Carnegie Hall setting, that people standing 10 feet away were commenting on it. And yep, songs full of the "F" word and the "N" word. One brave soul asked him if he could please turn it down and he simply said "No - too bad." He was so loud I could hear him over MY headphones.

A Radical was once beat up

A Radical was once beat up for chanting and singing satanic rap rhimes. It was rather odd. I was taking the train from SF to San Leandro and this young guy gets on the train, singing rap, but it had a satanic message in it. There was one guy who was eyeballing him with a vengence. The 'VENGENCE' guy walks over to the radical and knocks the fuck out of him. The radical landed on the floor. A lady got so upset, she presses the butt for the train operator. She says to everyone in the vacinity, "he didn't have to hit him. He wasn't bothering anybody." I thought, "He's the devil lady! What the fuck are you talking about?!" No one else wanted to do it.. so the 'VENGENCE' guy took it upon himself to show how he really felt.

The satanic radical rapper just got up and laughed and kept singing. At the next stop there was an officer, but the 'VENGENCE' guy got off the train already. It was definitely exciting.

I can't understand why people

I can't understand why people don't realize that they are disturbing others. I'm not talking about the ones who refuse to accommodate someone who asks them to turn things down/off. These people clearly have no regard for anyone but themselves, and seem to have a malicious intent behind their behavior.

The people I'm referring to are those who remain completely oblivious to those around them. I watched as this one lady, halfway across the train from me, played some game on her mobile device. The sound effects were so loud they were clearly audible to me, sitting at least five or six seats away. It must have been very loud to her seatmate, who by the way was holding a peacefully sleeping baby. Her seatmate stared at her periodically, especially after a particularly loud noise, but she went right on playing. I'm sure the lady with the baby didn't say anything because she probably would have woken up her baby in the process. I just think it's amazing that this woman was so oblivious to her fellow riders. I suppose it's not surprising, as many riders don't even think to yield their seats to someone who might need it more, such as an older person. It's sad, really.
