Aloha!

The grand prize is a four-night stay on Kauai including air transportation and lodging for two, courtesy of Aloha Airlines and Castle Resorts Hotels.

Haha! I saw that on the news tonight.

What a shame, eh? Aloha was a great airline, and it was so sudden. Yesterday they were taking reservations for 6 months in advance, then its over just like that.

About BART, I'm guessin' they're gonna get another airline (Hawaiian, ATA, United, American) that flies from OAK or SFO to Hawaii.

Need to print up a bunch of new signs though.

KGO's annual Leukemia Fund Drive also had vacation packages up for bid that included Aloha Airlines.

Just imagine the chaos in Hawaii as the spring breakers are just about to end their holiday.

Flew Aloha Air a few times. They did have older 737's - so the $3.00/gal jet fuel didn't help. Too bad.

Their inter-island aircraft

Their inter-island aircraft were older 737-200s, but their transpacific 737s were the NG (next generation) 700 and 800 models, which are state-of-the-art and fuel efficient.

I think it was that go! airline that sealed their fate. I do feel for everyone over there who suddenly finds out that their tickets home are worthless.

That's gonna be so cool when they roll out into regular service (I think there are 2 in passenger operations right now with some airline in Asia), but I hate to think what would happen if something goes wrong on one. In an all-coach configuration, can't they hold somewhere near 1,000 people?

I also think the hippie-plane (Boeing 787) should prove interesting. A plane made of plastic...

Due to Aloha Airlines' announcement that it is shutting down operations, BART will use an alternate airline for the grand prize trip to Hawaii.
